Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Evans-Witzel.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always loved photography and vintage photos. When I was a teenager, I would take photos of myself and my friends and edit them to look like photos from the 70s. In 2018 as a wedding gift from my husband, I got my first Nikon DSLR and started my photography business. The first year I spent working on developing my craft and second shooting weddings with other photographers. I learned a lot that year and also photographed my first wedding and elopement. 2021 was my most successful year to date. I photographed 17 weddings and elopements and several other lifestyle portrait sessions.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, yes. However, it is always challenging in the beginning stages trying to start a business and make a profit. I also am a mother to two bonus children that are 11 and 9, and my husband and I have two baby girls together, 2 and 5 months. I would say the biggest struggle in the last two years has been trying to achieve a good work-life balance of being a mom and a business owner. There have been many late nights editing photos and working on the backend of my business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a wedding and elopement photographer based out of the Chattanooga, TN area. I am known for my warm and vintage style. My photography evokes a feeling of nostalgia. I am most proud of my ability to document others’ stories in a way that is authentic to them and capture some of their most precious memories. What sets me apart from others is my ability to connect with my clients and make the process of photographing them as natural and enjoyable as possible.
What makes you happy?
My family and children make me happy. Being creative and traveling are also one of my greatest joys. I want to create a life that my children can be proud of and that can give them amazing experiences like traveling as well. I am blessed to have a job that allows me to spend most of my weekdays at home with my children. I am so thankful that I am able to be here with them more than I would at a 9-5 job while still providing for them.
