Life & Work with Kat Huskey of Franklin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Huskey

Hi Kat, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For nearly 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of leading worship and helping people encounter the presence of God. Currently, I serve as one of the worship pastors and leaders at HopeUC Nashville, where my passion is to create an atmosphere where people can experience Jesus’ love, freedom, and power.

My journey started in the quiet early hours of the morning—leading 3 a.m. sets in a Nashville prayer room. Those quiet, hidden moments shaped my heart for worship and deepened my understanding of what it means to truly minister to the Lord. Every song I write is a reflection of my own testimony of faith, a reminder of how God has overcome in my life, and an invitation for others to step into that same breakthrough.

Worship has not only shaped my calling but also my personal life—I met my husband through worship, and our shared heart for ministering to the Lord and serving others continues to be a foundation in our lives.

My passion for writing songs for the Church comes from a deeply personal place. Years ago, I had an encounter with Jesus during a worship song that completely changed my life. That moment showed me the power of worship to transform hearts, and ever since, I’ve been devoted to writing songs that create space for others to meet Him in the same way. For the past seven years, I’ve been writing and refining a collection of songs that tell a story of surrender, hope, and victory. My greatest inspiration comes from my family, especially my daughters, who remind me daily of the legacy of faith I want to leave behind.

In August of 2024 I posted a video of co-writing a praise song from the record with my 2 year old daughter and the video went viral! God has showed me so much through that experience that your dreams don’t top when you have children, they get bigger to include them. The song is called All My Praise and we released it January 1st, 2025 and the response has been insane! Constantly amazed by what God is doing with this song to uplift and encourage people.

I feel honored to declare His goodness, and to help others find their own voice of praise.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a mom and a creative certainly has its challenges.
I fine myself constantly having to create a “new normal” around songwriting when my now 3 year old wants to come play piano with me as i’m writing lol
I use to get flustered , and stressed as i’d try to get my ideas out in a haphazard way navigating around my kids.
In the fall of last year i decided to try to do things the way i did before wasn’t gonna work and that i was gonna have to pave a new path. Instead of living and dying on my old process, i dreamt a new way.
A way that invited my kids into my process instead of always trying to keep them in their own space.
It a much much longer and harder process as you can imagine but the reward has been so much greater than i could have ever imagined.

Now when im working on writing my daughter will sit beside
me and play piano, she will
sing her own songs and i ask for her input in what i’m writing and if she likes it. I know if i hear her singing it later on, we’ve got a good one! Because of this shift i draw a lot more inspiration from our everyday life of just momlife and the innocence of being a child and some of my best songs have come from that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a wife, mom, daughter, friend, worship leader, worship pastor and songwriter. I have a deep passion for leading people into the presence of God through worship and to equip others to raise up their own banner of praise!

One of the things I’m most proud of is the song i recently released that i wrote with my 2 year old daughter. It’s my favorite song i’ve written to date and i’ll just never get over that we got to do that together. What’s really special is that churches are leading this song all over the world and that’s a legacy not only i get to carry but my daughter does too!

At the core of what I do is deep passions for people to encounter Jesus.. Whether I’m leading worship, writing a song, or simply at home with my family, my heart remains the same—to glorify Jesus and to help others find their own voice of worship.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favs is every christmas on the way home from having christmas eve dinner with our extended family, my family would sing in harmony the whole car ride home. To this day i remember those care rides to dearly.
