Life & Work with Kelsey Muse of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Muse.

Hi Kelsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Moving from Oklahoma to Nashville, TN in 2003, I began pursuing my music career with the help of my father, who had a musical background.
I’ve achieved TV credits, song placement and songwriting awards starting in my young teens. In 2009, I was a featured artist/actress in the TV show series, “iShine Knect” on TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network) along with fellow artists like Jamie Grace & Luke Benward. At 17, I became an award winning songwriter by Song Circle (Billboard & EMI). As a performer, I was chosen to showcase for three divisions of the NACA College Circuit in 2010. Soon after, “Dear You” was a featured song for the Nick @Nite TV show, “Hollywood Heights” on Nickelodeon in 2012. I continued writing for publishing houses and developed more of my sound in the urban pop lane while cultivating my music message; pushing the status quo with a unique sound. In 2015, I released “1994” with producer Chris Pollera, hitting the airwaves on 107.5 The River. I was honored to be named as their, “YouTube Day Artist.” Now, currently promoting, “Sunglasses” and “Whispers” in a new chapter for my career, I’ve enjoyed exploring ideas of self motivation and facing adversity as a misfit or underdog.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Everybody’s path is unique and for me, I’m glad I traveled where I could young because it gave me great perspective instead of being down on myself. There were many struggles, especially as a young female artist in the music industry. I had to use discernment and learn from others more experienced than I, on how to navigate through the industry. I’m really grateful to those who took time to pour into me as an artist. Finances and the economy were tough, but at the end of the day, I knew my purpose and I knew hard work, I was determined to find a way to stay a real music artist and run it like a business. Lots of tears, but also more smiles.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Through the years I’ve branched out and evolved more into my career.
Outside of myself as an artist, I specialize in songwriting and song arrangements for other artists and sync placement in media. I dabble in fashion and design my own pieces. Recently, doing creative director work and some film production.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Helping others makes me happy because it’s outside of myself and when I’m writing, it’s about the inspiration and connection behind that. Creating art is a way for me to express myself and extend the message of inspiration.
