Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Muse.
Hi Kelsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Moving from Oklahoma to Nashville, TN in 2003 to pursue her music career, Kelsey Muse has accomplished TV credits, song placement and songwriting awards starting in her young teens. In 2009, she began as a featured artist/actress in the TV show series, “iShine Knect” on TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network) along with fellow artists like Jamie Grace & Luke Benward. At 17, she became an award winning songwriter by Song Circle (Billboard & EMI).
As a performer, she was chosen to showcase for three divisions of the NACA College Circuit in 2010. Soon after, “Dear You” was a featured song for the Nick @Nite TV show, “Hollywood Heights” on Nickelodeon in 2012. While performing at festivals with thousands in attendance, she wrote for publishing houses and developed more of her sound in the urban pop lane along with pushing the status quo that it was ok to be unique in her sound with a message; therefore her next single was born, “1994” released in 2015. The same year, Nashville’s 107.5 The River morning show, “Woody & Jim” named her “YouTube’s Day Artist” and the tune was played in rotation. In 2019, with moody notes and a haunting hook, the next chapter in her brand release was called, “Sunglasses.” This year in 2025, her upcoming single, “Whispers” is up next to be released. The catchy tune conveys a message of hope and motivation to the Muses and Misfits of the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was never smooth sailing, there were constant pressures by record labels to adapt to what was selling then and what was currently trendy to be pushed through the mainstream music. Most executives ignored the conflict of unique personality of an artist and pushed to compromise to what needed to fit in their budget. During the early YouTube days, it motivated herself more and more to learn independence and owning your work because everyone sounded the same on the radio.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known as an artist first. So I was fortunate to be around main stream artists and popular producers at a young age and learned what I could so I could apply it for years to come. I also learned my experience through keyboard drums & playing piano first and then I taught myself guitar. Once I learned guitar, I built multiple bands, I was hired for other bands and I played instruments in my own live performances. This helped my experience with managing bands and my communication skills with different personalities.
My songwriting ethic came from my father, who was also a musician during a period of time. I specialize in song arrangement and have written for other artists and contributed to multiple publishing catalogs for song placement. I was a frequent songwriter on Music Row, Nashville, TN. I would do vocal demo work for other producers and artists in multiple genres and was requested often during my college years. I took acting jobs and learned anything I could behind the camera as a production assistant and as a makeup artist.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Sometimes people see the inspiration and potential in you before you can even see it in yourself. Understand even though hard work is involved, it is also a portion of loving yourself enough to succeed.
