Today we’d like to introduce you to Landon Wall.
Hi Landon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I was about six years old, my mom and dad took me to see the Justin Bieber documentary. The minute I walked out of the movie theater, I opened the door and said that’s what I wanna do for a living. Couple months later Christmas was around the corner, my mom and dad asked what I wanted for Christmas. I said a wooden Guitar with the hole in the middle of it just like Justin Bieber had.
I woke up on Christmas morning and there was a Guitar under the tree, my dad was ready to teach me any song I wanted to learn.
Fast-forward to nine years old, that’s when I discovered Country Music. I fell in love with the stories and songwriting. I was truly mesmerized.
We then started driving back-and-forth from Nashville to NC about once a month. Every time we came, I would play on the street Corner on Broadway, open my guitar case and play for tips. That was Nashville as I knew it.
A few months later, I fell into a Garth Brooks rabbit hole and learned about the Bluebird Cafe, I would take the Google Earth tour of the Bluebird Cafe and I picked what seats I wanted to sit in the first time I got to go. My mom and dad learned about the Bluebird open mic they would host on mondays. So for a few years straight I was at the Open Mic almost every Monday night.
I’ve been co writing with my dad since I was 6 years old. We truly started diving into crafting a song when I was 9.
It was truly magical to get to play those songs on such a coveted stage in town.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a fun and challenging journey. Every road worth going on has a couple bumps in the road.
Initially what got me to really go all in for music was. It was my get away… my teddy bear in a way. Anytime I was going to bed… my guitar was in my hand.
Growing up, my brother struggled with addiction. Music was my outlet to get away from all that stuff. Anything going on in my world my dad and I would write a song about it. It was almost like a shared journal with my dad.
When I was about 11 we started posting on YouTube and Facebook fairly often. That led to a couple viral videos. One when I was 12 playing Stevie Ray Vaughan in the backseat of my mom and dad‘s car. And the other when I was 13. From writing a response to Kelsea Ballerini’s song Peter Pan..
Those are key moments in why I’m here, and partially why I’m so familiar with chasing a never-ending algorithm
I love the chase
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In the week, I’m a professional Songwriter. I chase down songs and concepts of songs and try to write them in the freshest way possible.
Whether that comes from personal experience, or something my co-writer is going through. I always love trying to find the most authentic and personalized way of writing that concept.
I would say, I specialize in creating an atmosphere for a song to begin growing… whether that’s a guitar riff or a melody. I love creating the musical atmosphere. It takes to allow that seed to be planted
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Nashville is definitely wrapped around risk taking.
From that decision when I was 6 that I wanted to do Music. That was a risk… this industry is a never-ending headless chicken chase from trend to trend with no promise of success. But that’s the part I love.
I love putting my faith in the Lord and creating the best music I can to resonate with others.
