Life & Work with Laura Cox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Cox.

Hi Laura, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi there! I’m Laura, and this is my business partner, Nicole. We started just before Christmas in 2019. We were struggling with Christmas funds, and a family member couldn’t make Christmas happen for her kids at all.

So we decided to create a few things in hopes of raising those funds. Since then, we’ve expanded our knowledge and products for our customers. We also continue to help our community in various ways. We believe that although we are a small business, we can have a big impact by giving and helping others.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Oh goodness, no. It has definitely not been smooth.

Just the same as any business, there have been so many challenges and struggles. Both Nicole and I have been through health struggles over these last few years. From Fibromyalgia, and depression/anxiety, to cancer, we have fought to make every achievement. We try to stay relevant by learning new techniques and products.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in custom tumblers, apparel, and home goods. Nicole and I both come from artistic backgrounds, we are able to bring two different styles to our customers. Nicole is more Gypsy/Boho, while I am more Farmhouse/Country Chic.

This gives us an edge because we can blend our two styles. We are most proud of our growth in knowledge. From where we started to now, the difference is amazing. Just learning what works best and how to bring our customers the quality they deserve, has been so rewarding.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
For me, my favorite memory is all the times my sisters and I made toys and games out of nothing. We would use our imagination to its fullest to create ice cream shops with our bikes, Barbie mansions from boxes, and play Annie while sitting on top of our dressers. Looking back, I can see where all of my imagination came from. Nicole- My love for crafting started as a young girl thrifting with my grandmother.

She would give me 3.00 to find my own treasures and to me, at this age, I believed it to be hundreds of dollars. I would watch as my grandmother would find what others had tossed away and she would repurpose the items to create new and exciting pieces. She would call these adventures “junking” and this time together would go on to influence my love of crafting and creating. She was my biggest influence.
