Life & Work with Lauren Eliza of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Eliza.

Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My debut project is called “The Girl From Nowhere” and that is exactly who I am! I was born in Alabama and raised all around the world due to my dad’s military career. With no true “hometown” I moved 14+ times- spent a good bulk of my childhood in Hawaii, went to college in Colorado, and taught elementary school in California before moving to Nashville in 2020.

Although I took a few detours before moving to Nashville, I fell in love with performing and storytelling at a young age. I wrote my first song at the age of 12 and started in community theatre at the age of 9. My parents are not necessarily the “musical type” so I was brought up on the top 40. However, I always gravitated towards raw relatability and loved listening to country greats like LeAnn Womack and Dolly Parton. In high school, I found my voice in artists such as Sara Bareilles, Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves. Since moving to Nashville, I’ve continued to refine my songwriting and find a core group of songwriters and artists that I love working with. Writings songs is therapeutic for me – I write songs to process the world around me and to help me understand myself and my experiences. I’m so excited to release more of my music and connect with more people this year. I’m really proud of the project that’s coming – it has been 6 years in the making!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. The music industry is full of constant rejection and uncertainty, and understanding that every “no” isn’t personal has been a learning curve. I’ve also had to balance building my career as an artist and a songwriter while working a full-time job, which can be tiring but necessary at this stage. Of course there have been other challenges too- moving to Nashville by myself (goodbye comfort zone), learning both the business and craft of songwriting, trial and error when it comes to co-writing connections, learning how to play guitar, and maintaining a healthy long distance relationship to name a few. Looking back now, I faced a lot of challenges but every moment was preparing me in some way and I wouldn’t choose any other path. Lately I’ve been leaning into just having a good day- writing a song that really feels like “me”, focusing on a positive comment from a fan, having a great show, etc. It sounds so cheesy but it’s really not about the destination.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’d say I specialize in honest, story-driven songwriting that lives in the country genre (and a little bit in the pop world). I’m really drawn to lyrics that feel personal but still relatable- songs that make people feel seen. I think I’ve becoming known for writing from a very real place, even when it’s messy or uncomfortable. I’m most proud of my upcoming EP “The Girl From Nowhere” which is coming out this year!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality to my success has been persistence. I truly believe Nashville rewards people who continue to show up. It’s called a “ten year town” for a reason! It’s less about one big viral moment and more about sticking around long enough for your work, relationships, and growth to compound.
