Life & Work with Lenny Gomulka

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenny Gomulka.

Hi Lenny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was attracted to live bands growing up in Chicago in a very ethnic neighborhood. Formal lessons began in grade school then I began playing out at 11-12 years old. Fast forwarding… I recorded many vinyl LPs of which 1 was nominated for a Grammy Award for the first time in 1985. I began writing new material and producing LPs yearly which led me to 12 Grammy nominations. My band was playing all throughout the USA and Canada. In the 1980’s I found myself on the road doing 160-170 dates per year.

That busy schedule prompted my move out to the east coast which acted as my hub. We have collectively won more Music Awards and Accolades than any band of our genre. Now living in a new place on the east coast, in Massachusetts I penned a song that was signed into Legislature in 1998 at the State House in Boston. That song is now the Official State Polka of Massachusetts called “Say Hello to Someone in Massachusetts.” My recording career continues as I just produced a new release in 2022 called “To the Moon & Back” which features my friends Dee-Dee Ogrodny and Ryan Joseph of the Alan Jackson Band. It’s all pretty cool. And big things are happening in 2023 including another Tour into Nashville.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a smooth musical roller coaster but an awesome ride for the most part. Traveling at the level I traveled during my career, it goes without saying that the going gets tough. I sum it up using the words of Frank Sinatra… “Regrets, I have a few, but then again, too few to mention.”

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an entertainer, I am fueled by audiences and music fans.

Mostly I have come to realize that it’s all about the people. I love my friends and my family that have shared my musical career with me. I’m grateful that I have always been blessed by the best of loyal, dedicated, musicians who have shared the spotlight with me. I thank God every day for my health, my life, and my family.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The best advice I wish to share for young musicians and singers is to “be you”, and be original.

Yes, get inspired but use the inspiration to craft your personality into your style, your songs, and your brand. Create that brand every day and every way with everything that you do and do it every step of the way.
