Today we’d like to introduce you to Lil Trip
Hi Lil, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Madison, TN, but raised in a small town, Paducah, KY in my earlier years. My love for music began at the age of 5 my grandmother would play her organ and I would freestyle over the music she played. At age 7 I knew rap was the career I wanted to pursue after seeing Bow Wow on 106&Park, a TV show that used to be on BET. By the time I was in middle school I had moved back to TN and that’s when my career started off. Me and a few of my friends in the neighborhood had formed a rap group called “Dem Cashville Boyz” where we would record songs all day at one of our members house. From there we started gaining local buzz consistently releasing music on YouTube and passing CD’s out throughout the schools in our area. Fast forward we all ended up going our separate ways and I launched my career as a solo artist. My first single that gained worldwide attention was “Red Light” featuring Lil Chuckee, a former artist of Lil Wayne’s label, Young Money. I started getting booked every weekend all around the middle Tennessee area making a household name for myself. I moved to LA for a while after graduating high school to further my career where I had meetings with a few major labels and also receiving co signs from artist like Snoop Dogg. I was inspired by artist like Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, & Drake. Fast forward today I’ve had the opportunity to tour with Nashville’s own Jelly Roll, on his Crosses and Crossroads tour. I produce and audio engineer for many artists around the Nashville area, currently just opened my own studio “Take A Trip Studios” which started in Goodlettsville, Tn, but now we are right in the heart of downtown Nashville.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, I feel if it’s any dream or business you’re pursuing in this life to make happen all of it will have its up’s and downs. I’ve pretty much been independent my whole career and one major challenge I faced was having to make sure financials was stable to fund my career while also maintaining my daily life. Another challenge would be understanding the different contracts and royalty systems. Early on you think “oh it’s just about the music” until you realize it’s more to it, this is the music business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Im an artist, audio engineer, music producer, and studio owner in Nashville, Tn. As of today I’ve released over 8 solo albums independently and have also produced for many other artist. I’m most proud of headlining the Municipal Auditorium at such a young age, I’m coming for Bridgestone next!!!
What separates me from others is that I’m sorta like the triple threat! Multitalented. In this industry most people are very good at that one thing they do, but with me you don’t have to look anywhere else, I’m the one stop shop.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, just taking care of yourself and your health is important.
