Life & Work with Lily Bergeron (Valleria) of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Bergeron (Valleria)

Hi Lily, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a youth, I was not particularly skilled artistically, however, I always felt a strong desire to express myself creatively. My joy for music and dancing led to hula hooping which eventually developed into fire performing, DJing, and producing music. I started hula hoop dancing about 6 years ago and of course eventually put fire on it. From then, I learned other fire props such as fire fans, iso hoop, palm torches, fire eating, juggling, and vapor tricks. I got into DJing in 2021, before I knew it, I was playing live shows and fire eating on stages. Then, I began producing my own music via the software program, Ableton 11 Live. This year, I plan to begin fire performing during my live DJ sets. Inspiring others and creating art is my passion, I hope to continue my journey in creating and combining my art forms.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To be honest, getting started felt like the easy part. I have many friends that throw events and shows, however, it can be hard working with friends. Getting noticed by promoters and festivals in other states can also be a bit complicated at times. One of the biggest challenges can often be technical difficulties during sets and even behind the scenes. Another major struggle is gathering equipment to produce and mix at home, which is quite expensive. Although, I will say it is all quite worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in electronic music production, DJing, and fire performing. I am known for mixing dubstep, reggae dub, rap flips, trap, and beats. I mix a lot of 140 BPM dubstep, however, I have a wide variety of genres in my library. I do flow arts, as well, such as hula hoop dancing, fire fans, fire eating, vapor tricks, juggling, and just recently got into dragon staff. I am proud of my consistency to learn so many different skills and continue to progress. I love that my arts can be combined and are an inspiration to others. I plan to keep providing myself as many opportunities as possible and grow as an artist.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I learned from Covid-19 is to really appreciate the little and big moments. Gathering with friends and community is a blessing and something I deeply cherish. I also need to have audiences to gather with and during Covid I had to get creative on posting content to stay relevant in the community. Luckily, I did not lose any loved ones during the crisis, however, I felt the impact of others losses and the lockdown. I appreciate the growth since that harsh time.
