Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorrie and Isaac Fowler.
Hi Lorrie and Isaac, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Isaac and I (Lorrie) were middle school sweethearts and have practically grown up together. We’ve worked corporate jobs, teaching jobs, etc. After 12 years of marriage and working for other people, we decided to take the leap to become self-employed artists.
About 3 years ago, we had gone through a really hard time with one of our sons having unexplained seizures. During that season, I started going through my own heart healing, through Biblical counseling and discovering more of my identity.
While on my own journey of healing, I started experimenting with fluid acrylic painting, after our kids went to bed.
Through that, I discovered that I’m an artist and love creating abstract art. I’ve continued to hone my skills and develop my own creative voice through my art. It’s a beautiful journey of discovery.
As I made time to create, Isaac also started to paint again, after laying it down for years. We discovered this shared passion for creating beautiful expressions of our journey. We follow Jesus, and as we spent time with Him in our creativity, we started to both emotionally heal as we created. Not only that but our son has also been healed of seizures. One of the hardest times in our lives brought so much beauty. The more we spent time creating and selling our art, the more we realized that we could in fact make this hobby a career.
In May of 2022, Isaac resigned from his full-time career in software management so that we could become self-employed artists. This has been a beautiful adventure of growth, challenges, and successes, and it’s only the beginning!
We have shown our art locally, at shows, markets, and local establishments, such as home decor stores, coffee shops, and hair salons, as well as through social media and our website. Getting to know our collectors, hearing how our art has affected their lives and exchanging stories are some of our favorite aspects of our business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the biggest challenges we have run into include scheduling our time. Since we are home-schooling our 3 boys and working from home, it takes a lot of intentionality to get everything coordinated.
Also, we have very different personalities, and although we’ve shared more life together than we have apart, we are now together a lot more. With these new responsibilities, we are finding new ways to better communicate with one another about our family, our business, and all the in-between.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I (Lorrie) am an abstract fluid acrylic artist. The process of getting my hands messy while creating is something I really enjoy. I’m definitely the messier painter of the two of us, I almost always end up wearing paint. My art is inspired by my journey of identity with the Lord, as well as my love for the natural wonders around me.
Isaac creates realistic paintings with accents of abstraction. He focuses on the beauty around us by calling attention to things that we often don’t notice in our busy world, such as landscapes, storm clouds, and sunsets.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The one-of-a-kind pieces that I (Lorrie) create are filled with movement and joy. Liquid colors frozen in time, my art is a representation of the beauty of life. My original artwork can range in size from bracelets, with my original paintings, to large statement pieces for homes and businesses. Many say that they experience a sense of peace when viewing my art.
Isaac enjoys creating a sense of peace and calm in his paintings, as well. Because his paintings are realistic, the techniques that he uses are different from mine. He often combines harmonious color pallets and carefully considered compositions to draw the viewer into the window of a calm world.
We both enjoy collaborating with collectors to create custom art that encompasses special memories, ideas, and inspirations.
