Today we’d like to introduce you to LYDA.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
First, thank you so much Voyage Nashville for having me today! It’s an honor to share my story with you. My family says that I began singing before I could even talk. I went to my first concert when I was 9, and that’s when I ultimately decided that I want to be on stage for the rest of my life.
I started writing songs when I was 12. I taught myself how to play the guitar when I was 17, and a year later is when I began to perform. I’m from Galveston Island, which is an island on the coast of Texas. I have performed all over the Lone Star State and have gained a following in the Hill Country area as well as Waco, TX. I got to perform in Nashville for the first time, in October 2021, and it was the best experience that I have had as a musician, yet.
I decided in 2019, that I was finally going to commit to a full-time music career. I had more performances and more opportunities in 2021 than ever before. I refuse to give up, and I truly believe that persistence, and consistency, lead to success. In early 2021, I started production/engineering classes and I have been recording and producing my new music. I have been in the process of rebranding myself and my art.
I am currently working on a new website and I’m working on releasing new music to streaming platforms. For now, you can follow me on FB/IG to stay connected!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think anything worth having in life, is worth working for. Having a career in the music industry is anything but easy. There is no blueprint or degree for this kind of work. It has been extremely challenging to focus on music when life can get in the way.
At one point, I was a full-time college student with two jobs, and I had very little time for music. Looking back on that period of life, makes me appreciate where I am now. I was extremely depressed with obligations that never felt fulfilling or rewarding. Now, I am working towards nothing but my music career.
I still have doubts and depressive episodes, but I have learned to really lean on my musician friends during those moments. I am so blessed to be open and surrounded by a community of support, from people who are just like me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As previously mentioned, I play the guitar. The guitar is my second instrument. I taught myself how to play so that I could have accompaniment for my voice.
I really have a passion for singing and I specialize invoice. Other than vocals, I truly love to write. Nothing can top the feeling of writing relatable tunes for listeners to engage with. My most popular songs are songs that I call my “bedroom/diary” songs.
The songs that I write to vent or get something off my chest, are not meant for anyone but myself. People always tend to take a liking to those most of all.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I feel like I am still just starting out in a lot of ways. For someone who is just now beginning to perform/commit to a career in music, I’d say: Remain consistent with yourself and with your craft.
Look at music as a business, because that is what it truly is. Stop looking outside of you for someone or something to help you. You have to wake up every day and motivate yourself to accomplish and achieve your goals.
It isn’t up to anyone else, but yourself.
