Life & Work with Maeve Wilders of Smyrna, Tn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maeve Wilders.

Maeve, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in a magical family. Always outside, always growing something, looking at the clouds, naming the birds. My childhood was gentle, at the hands of great grandparents and elders in my community. They taught me so many of the things I know and use today. My great grandmother taught me the most though. Visiting neighbors, sitting by her side, watching as she did her thing. I started reading as she aged and eventually took her place in community. A few years ago I met Atalanta Moonfire, who calls herself a bone thrower and realized that was what we were, my family. Never had I identified it until that moment. I took her classes and we became the best of friends staying together for an entire festival to compare techniques and pieces. Once I realized it was something that could be, and should be, shared on a larger scale I started doing so. It was more widely accepted than I thought it would be. Originally, I read for family, farmers and church ladies but the community as a whole had a need for it so now I read as often as they need me. Usually, at festivals and events geared more towards the metaphysical or arcane types.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you tell someone their barn will burn down and it does that is never a smooth moment….. but that is how it goes with prognostication. I’ve had many things I’ve seen be so heartbreakingly correct that I prayed I was wrong from the moment it appeared on my board. I have also been very happy to have the readings DO what they are meant to DO, help you navigate the future away from those outcomes! I have been bullied at events like many others, for practicing “dark” arts and the “devils work”. I’ve survived a tornado in a popup tent but lost all my tarot cards. It’s been a interesting ride but I’ve had the best of friends to help me. The hardest thing I’ve had to overcome was my self doubt following my brain surgery in 2021. I wasn’t sure I would be able to continue but they pulled me through. I can’t lift anything to this day so they set me up wherever I go. Big shout out to Michelle Garner for being my “ride or dye”.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a bone reader. It’s probably what people recognize me most for. I get the “ you’re that bone lady” quite often. Calling ancestors to join my readings adds a touch of mediumship to them and can give special moments. Especially when there are messages that were left unsaid. Having a compassionate heart goes a long way in my readings. I always try to make that connection with the person I’m reading for. Hopefully, people remember me for that the most.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was a clown when I was younger (teenager) and traveled around. My name was Tilly and I had a extra large bag of love.
