Life & Work with Mark “Mystery” Gray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark “Mystery” Gray.

Hi Mark, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been in the music industry over thirty plus years singing but I have been producing music for twenty five plus years. I also have two gospel radio shows that I host, one is gospel singing and the other is gospel hip hop. Im also the co-host for The Back and Forth Podcast Show based out of Chicago, Illinois with my big brother William Howell and co-host Curtis Moore “GetMo.” Im also working with a gospel artist name Deremus Jones. He is my pastor and as we speak we are in the studio recording. There is another brother out of Memphis, Tennessee name Uknow Fro, we will be working together on some projects when our time permits. We both are very busy lol but if it’s God’s will it most definitely will happen.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being in any business is always a struggle, even when you have made it and been successful it’s still a struggle. No one should want anything that is to easy to get. I also want to add that losing family members is hard too. My uncle Walter Vaughn passed away on memorial day and it has effected me in many ways. I have lost a son, two grandmother’s, a grandfather, and a best friend within 5yrs. Having God in my life has really helped me through a lot.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Along with my music i do have a 9 to 5 job. I work at a hospital and I love helping people. Now producing music is not something I look at as a job because I love music period. Even though I make money from it, it’s something I have passion for. Im known for making tracks and singing. Im most proud of the things I have accomplished today because it could have been a lot worse. What sets me apart from others is nothing. I feel like im the same as everyone else. I put my pants on just like the next man. I have a strong love for God, im loyal and trustworthy. But im the same as the next person.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Well I have always spoke with or looked up to men whom I have been knowing for years or someone who has experience something that im going through. They could be old or young. I have a younger cousin Cub The Cookup Boss who i talk to about some things. He’s very intelligent and have been through some things that i haven’t. So it really depends on if you trust or believe in that person you are talking to.
