Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Richardson
Hi Marvin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started in Coney Island of Brooklyn New York. In my almost 50 years of living I’ve experienced all that life, love, and growth moments can offer you. In my today I continue my journey as a Father, Creator of Content, and for my day job managing multiple Construction projects in multiple states. To say I’m busy is an understatement. From my early days in Brooklyn I was like most kids playing in the projects and fast forward to High School I found myself apart of the dance ensemble that further landed me Scholarships to the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance then the world-renowned Ailey School. I didn’t stop there, architecture was another passion of mine. Fast forward, after serving the community at my local church doing choreography for stage plays I returned to school and finished with a degree in Construction Management. I worked for some very large and prestigious contractors and eventually transitioned to work on the Owners side as a Construction Manager for Amazon. Creativity is still in my blood and I managed to do content creation via YouTube focusing on adding value to relationships. Throughout all my years I’ve consistently grown through being of service locally and virtually at church, building systems and physical spaces in construction, and adding value to life’s most precious connections. Faith, Family, and Love!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The short answer is no, it has not been smooth. Struggle is a apart of life. Consider the caterpillar and the process it goes thru before it emerges as a butterfly. It literally struggles out of its cocoon to strengthen its wings and that struggle allows it to take flight. I’ve had my share of hard times managing life, school, divorce, jobs and more. Through it all I’ve come through it just like the caterpillar and now I’m flying “literally” from state to state in my now job. If not for my struggles I wouldn’t have the resolve and the “Stick-to-it-tiveness” (Yes I made that up LOL!!) to keep going. I use to work a full time job, do full time college and drive Uber till I graduated in 2016. I struggled but I made it. Mind you I have two sons living in another state and drove to see them as often as I could. Currently I’m working in construction and had no plans of life happening but it did, with tears in my eyes facing a divorce I kept going forward and completed all of my projects. “I struggled but I made it.” Do you see a theme here? In my today I have more responsibilities of multiple million dollar projects with challenges and struggles I didn’t expect. But lets just fast forward to the finish line later this year and go ahead and say it with me. “I struggled but I made it.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The collective work I do is multifaceted. If I had to call it a name it would be Artistic Architectural Strategic Implementation & Construction. That’s a mouth full but, its creative, finds function for habitable spaces, moves things forward, and built from the ground up. One is too small a number to achieve greatness, said by John C. Maxwell. As I’m working toward the greater version of myself I’m most proud of my resilience and connections I make along the way. All experiences both bad and good shapes who we are, how we are, and why we are. Like all of us our individual journeys not only sets us apart but sets us up for what’s next. As a result, my present work is sourced from my history and how I’ve lived and choose to now. Its what makes me unique! I love clutch moments when a challenge arises that seems impossible but I figure it out. The place between chaos and clarity is where I thrive but I’m not always running too it. It’s God’s formula for shaping me more like him, to serve like him, and live like him.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I’ve had many great childhood memories. I remember waking up Christmas morning and the presents went from the tree to the apartment door. It was epic! I also remember me and my sister sneaking into my parents’ room and playing with our Christmas presents while my dad was sleep. He had no idea until my mother came home from church and saw the pieces we forgot to put back. No spankings but my mom got real cleaver after that. LOL! One favorite memory that stands out is my first dance performance in high school. Imagine a boy from the projects that had many rows of friends from the hood screaming your name. It felt like a hug from a thousand people at one time. My parents were there too and my dad went to work bragging out how proud he was because he didn’t know I could dance like that. I can still see the crowd and hear the applause. (Insert big smile emoji).
