Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Johns.
Hi Matthew, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
So, I actually am self taught 4 years ago I was taking a creative hiatus living out in Rock Island, while I was out there I was so inspired by the nature around me and starting thinking of how I could use to decorate for the Holidays, like any business I started out very small decorating cabins, and my first couple mailboxes were nothing to write home about! It’s a lot more challenging than it looks, but I kept practicing, and each year I gained more knowledge ! I always say – Beyoncé wasn’t built in a day, the journey of it all is the best part! Every year Christmas came and I gained more clients and let me tell you, it’s all blood, sweat and tears, if you know me, you know how dedicated I am to my work, there were days I was decorating homes in ski suit because it was so cold, and other days fighting wind on an 16 foot ladder – but The show must go on !
The name Francis and Adeline was taken from my grandmothers first name and her sister Adeline who lived on our family’s farmhouse, formally known as Libery Hill in Smyrna TN, built in 1806, which still stands today ! My father who is passionate about his family history and devoted the last few years writing a book about the Johns Family, inspired me to use the their names, as a reminder to lead with kindness, and always look out for others, thought my work, I hope to bring southern hospitality and joy to your family, from ours.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not having a smooth road is what makes things interesting, it’s the problem solving I enjoy the most ! Think on your toes, and don’t stress the small stuff ! Weather, cold, wind, running out of supplies, loosing scissors and having my fingers go numb are just a few of my favorite things, while I decorate your home with joy !
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in custom holiday installations, for your entry way, but not limited too – I’m mostly known for my innovative ideas and creative doorways, I just love it when fall comes back- and I start using Pumpkins to really bring in the fall vibes! I can’t wait to Place Pumpkins on front porch ! I’m mostly proud of the fact that I find better ways to do it more creatively and inspire myself and others ! My style and free spirit is what sets me apart!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Listen, I think if you’re doing something that scares you or makes you nervous you’re doing the right thing ! My whole life is about taking smart risks ! When I was 29, I bought a one ticket to Indonesia and planned on staying for a month and ended up living there for 2 years and working as head booker for. modeling agency called Bali Startz ! Risks can be amazing, you just have to believe in yourself !
