Life & Work with Meg Harlow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Harlow.

Hi Meg, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re sisters who have always had a passion for movies, pop culture references, and art. From digital art, murals, and canvas art – we have done it and love it ALL!

In 2019, we were inspired by an Instagram influencer, Katie Rogers, who was looking to create some merchandise for her brand.

One conversation led to another and the next thing we knew we were painting a large-scale mural on the front of her SEAlon, flooded with clients asking for more of our work and having the time of our lives doing it.

We maintained custom work only for the next year while we fielded questions about when we were going to create our own shop to sell our work.

In 2021, we made the big leap – Meg and Bee Company came to life! Since then we’ve loved creating one-of-a-kind nostalgic designs for t-shirts, mugs, bags, and stickers.

After a wonderful success over the year, we reached out to a TikTok influencer, Kate Steinberg, to share a t-shirt we thought she’d love, one TikTok post later and we were needing to expand our line to jewelry, rad gifts, and funky finds.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the little time, we’ve had Meg and Bee Company we’ve faced both our hardest and greatest times. When we first launched, we were both still working full-time jobs, making it very difficult to time manage.

In fact, there were more than 1 or 2 Saturdays where we found ourselves sitting at the kitchen table for 13+ hours working on designs for clients. As sisters, it is awesome to work together, but we had to learn to be our business selves vs. our sister selves. Spending all of our time together we had to make sure we still carved out time to just be sisters!

Through trial and error, we found the ‘secret sauce’ if you will, for our company and made sure we’re mindful of time, effort, and energy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Meg and Bee Company we specialize in digital art that is transformed into funky t-shirts, bags, and mugs. Overall, we’d say our specialty is nostalgia references – bringing some of our favorite characters back to life with a new spin!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
JUST GO FOR IT.

The absolute hardest part of starting a business is just that, starting! Do your research, talk to an accountant/attorney to make sure you’re crossing the right t’s and dotting the right i’s, and most importantly don’t be afraid to ask questions.

We reached out to a few people that we were inspired by on social media asking for advice and guidance – that’s how we found our tax attorney and he is AMAZING!
