Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Scott.
Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was little, I was always drawn to stories, music, photography and acting. I loved looking through my dad’s photo albums filled with pictures he had taken of nature and flipping through fashion magazines while waiting in line at the grocery store with my mom. At the time, I never imagined that I could one day become a photographer. Looking back now, those early moments were the beginning of my love for visual storytelling and creativity.
Years later I auditioned for my first musical when I was 11 and fell in love with theatre. In my english class of my senior year we were asked to write a letter to our future selves and where we hoped to be in life. I remember writing, “After Graduation my plan is to go work at Walt Disney World as a character performer, then go to New York and audition for Broadway!” I wasn’t certain if those dreams would come true, but I knew that was the plan I had in mind. Spoiler, God’s plan was way better than mine! After Graduation I went to my first audition and was so thankful to be given the opportunity to work at Walt Disney World as a Character Performer full time. I had the honor of bringing Walt’s beloved characters to life—meeting guests, creating magical moments, and performing in the nighttime spectacular Fantasmic!
A year later I had moved back home due to covid and was lost in the plan I had thought of. I had a spark of interest for sports photography after watching my first hockey game in 2025 with the Nashville Predators. I started going to local games to practice. While I was watching a YouTube video for tips and tricks, I had a suggested video for Dramatic Sports Photography pop up and immediately clicked on the video. I was so inspired by the storytelling of the image and how off camera flash can help create the mood, but I was incredibly nervous and a little intimated using flash. Soon after that discovery, a workshop for Dramatic Sports Photography in Paducah,KY was being held and I thought maybe this is my sign to dive in and try something new. I’m so glad I went! I had an incredible time meeting other photographers and creatives. I had the opportunity to practice photographing with off camera flash and instantly fell in love and found my passion.
As soon as I came back home from the workshop, I started practicing every week and watching as many videos as I could to learn and grow. I started to photograph athletes, seniors, portraits, beauty and fashion. While experimenting and finding my style I realized this was a part of me from the beginning. I just needed to step into the unknown and take that leap. I’m so thankful for my parents and family, who have been incredibly encouraging and supportive. I don’t think I would be where I am today without them, the Lord, and His goodness and guidance. He led me to discover this passion and the joy of meeting so many amazing people along the way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Looking back at the start of my journey it has been a little bit of a smooth road, but I have experienced a few moments of struggle. When I first started in photography I started to find myself comparing and feeling defeated when a photoshoot didn’t turn out as planned. I would then dive deeper in research of lighting and where I might have went wrong in the execution of the photoshoot. I am thankful for those moments as it has trained my eye to see those mistakes and learn how to adjust quickly. I recently heard a quote that says, “You can not thrive following other people’s formula.” and that really stuck with me. It has helped me come out of my shell more and to try new things when photographing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a self-taught photographer specializing in sports, beauty, and fashion photography. As a visual storyteller, I am drawn to color, emotion, and movement. Theatre has been one of the biggest inspirations behind my photography style. From stage lighting and set design to costumes, props, and performance, I’ve always been fascinated by the way the visual elements work together to tell a story. My style is dramatic, clean, and vibrant, with pops of color created through the use of colored gels to bring each image to life.
One of my favorite parts of any photoshoot is the collaboration process. I think that’s where the magic happens. Seeing how other creatives interpret and envision a concept is incredibly inspiring, and I love working together to create something unique and memorable.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I have not only been behind the camera, but also in front of it! When I was younger, I attended acting classes focused on commercial and on-screen performance. Over the years, I have appeared in short films, music videos, television shows, and movies as both featured and background talent.
Those experiences were incredibly fun and helped shape me into a professional who understands the importance of preparation, adaptability, organization, time management, and collaboration on set. Having experience on both sides of the camera gives me a deeper understanding for the creative process and the teamwork that brings productions to life.
