Today we’d like to introduce you to Mockingbird Musicians.
Hi Mockingbird, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I founded Mockingbird Musicians in Nashville in 2010 while I was working professionally as a pianist and contractor in the city’s live music scene. What began as a small operation focused on connecting couples and event clients with high-quality classical and contemporary musicians gradually grew into a full-service music contracting and event company.
As the business expanded, I developed systems for scheduling, project management, musician coordination, and client communication that allowed us to serve a much larger range of events while still keeping things personal and detail-oriented. Today, Mockingbird Musicians works with a wide network of professional performers and provides music for weddings, corporate events, and private events across Middle Tennessee and beyond.
Alongside running the business, I’ve continued performing professionally and have developed a strong interest in operations, leadership, and project management. Balancing the artistic side with the business side has been a huge part of my journey, and I think that combination is what shaped where I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I started, one of the biggest challenges was simply establishing credibility and building trust in a very competitive market like Nashville. Early on, a lot of growth came from word-of-mouth referrals, so consistency and professionalism were critical. Over time, maintaining strong relationships with clients, planners, venues, and musicians helped build the reputation the company has today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in live event music coordination and performance, primarily for weddings, corporate events, private events, and special productions throughout Nashville and the surrounding region. My role combines both the artistic and operational sides of the business — everything from performing as a pianist to managing logistics, coordinating musicians, building event timelines, communicating with planners and venues, and ensuring every event runs smoothly from start to finish.
I really enjoy working directly with clients to make sure the music at their wedding or event reflects their story and that we achieve the vibe they’re going for. We offer a variety of instruments and combinations including piano, strings, guitar, bass, and drums.
How do you define success?
Over time, I’ve come to define success less by a single milestone and more by consistency, trust, and impact. In my work, success means creating an experience where clients feel completely confident that everything is being handled professionally, while the musicians feel supported and able to perform at their best.
