Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Deatherage.

Hi Molly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I began my career working at a salon in Beverly Hills with a wide array of celebrity clientele, before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada where I would be working on Chippendale’s, Magic Mike, Black magic live, Cirque du Soleil, etc. Specializing in Male Brazilians but offering a wide array of services, including vajazzling, professional makeup, and full body waxing/sugaring. 2020 came and Covid took a big hit on my industry. I decided to move to Nashville for a fresh start and to try to regroup after some personal trials.

Shortly after moving to Nashville, I found that it was not only hard for me to find a job in my industry, but I also was unjustly fired from my current salon job. This left me in a very difficult position, as I was already struggling to not only find housing but I was now left with no income. Little did I know losing my job would be the greatest thing that could happen to me, as it caused me to fully step into entrepreneurship and birth two new successful businesses in less than six months. $ugar baby body was the first brick-and-mortar business I opened, the very week I was also moving into a brand new apartment.

With no idea how I was going to pay for my new location and my new apartment, I knew that this was exactly where I was supposed to be and what I was supposed to be doing. Shortly after opening, the clients came pouring in, I started with an empty treatment room with only a waxing bed and a little desk with a wax pot on it, and it has now fully developed into a fully functioning and thriving salon. I have since also developed my product line including my own Hard Wax brand made with moisturizing shea butter that we now sell to other salons.

Within a couple of months of opening the salon, I began having the funds to maintain and started putting more money into the furnishing of the business, I began looking for a manufacturer to create some neon signs for our treatment room and our waiting room. After finding a manufacturer and having my signs made, I began having so many people reach out to me asking if I could help them order a sign I decided that I could turn this into a business and private label my own company.

From there was birthed Get Lit Neon Sign Co. Starting the Neon Sign Company, I had no idea the opportunities it would lead to and all the amazing companies and people I would get to work with. Since opening, we have now gotten to work with and place our signs in many restaurants, gyms, hotels, event venues, and homes all over not just Nashville, but nationwide as we offer FREE worldwide shipping! Just this year we also introduced LED signs which have also taken off in all industries.

This journey to entrepreneurship has not been an easy one, but it has been my greatest blessing, and I think it’s safe to say getting fired was the best thing that could ever happen to me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Within the months leading up to my opening the salon, I experienced months of homelessness, no job, and no vehicle.

When I saw no way out and had no idea what to do, I was led directly into entrepreneurship. I started with the business with only $300 and luckily the location I was renting from gave me the first two months free to get on my feet and start generating income.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My salon offers a variety of services from full body waxing/sugaring, custom airbrush spray tans, Vajazzling, lash extensions, brow and lash tints, and lash lifts.

We specialize in both male and female Brazilian services and are one of the only salons to use our brand of wax that we manufacture ourselves, made with moisturizing Shea butter and natural ingredients. Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I have no background in business, marketing, or any type of college degree.

I went to cosmetology school for my cosmetology and aestheticians license, and I am licensed in four different states, but I have never taken any classes or courses on business.
