Life & Work with Nicole Beasley of Franklin Tennessee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Beasley

Nicole, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It was not easy to get to where I am today but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am who I am because of what I went through. So to give a little quick backstory before getting into the good stuff, I am born and raised Long Island, NY. I grew up in a huge Italian family. So you can imagine my big personality here in Tennessee. I struggled with a drug and alcohol addiction. Started real young around the age of 12. I just remember that’s what consumed me. I had those dreams growing up. I always wanted to be a cosmetologist. Either that or a nurse. I was in a super dark place. Lost too many people to count to addiction. I did not want to live anymore. I put myself in some dangerous situations. All of a sudden one day, I wanted to live. I wanted to get my life back. I winded up packing my bags and leaving NY and heading down to Sumter, South Carolina. There I completed 16 months of rehab. If I was going to do this I was going to do this once, not over and over again. At the age of 23, scared as hell, I left and never looked back. My sobriety date is September 27th, 2016. Just over 8 years now, completely clean from drugs and alcohol.

I met my now husband while I was there. I started to look into doing hair but we were always going to move here to Tennessee. We came here to visit and I set up a tour at Paul Mitchell the school of Murfreesboro. I instantly felt like this is where I need to be. Fast forward, we moved, bought a home and I graduated in 2021! I am so happy I did not persue hair when I was in NY. I was in such a dark place I would have for sure lost my license. I would have been crushed.

I worked reception at a couple of salons until I found my salon home. The Pink Mullet Salon in Franklin, TN. There I had the honor of working under one of the owners until I was on my own. Been here since 2021 and do not see myself going anywhere. They have helped mold me into who I am. Discover talent of my own that I did not think I had. Pushed me to do better. I winded up having a child and had to take some time off. It was hard coming back. I have worked so hard to be where I am today. I am continuing to do so. I will not give up.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No. Like I mentioned before I had a journey with addiction. Moving here during COVID-19, not knowing a single person was very hard. My husband worked HVAC so he was working a lot. It was just me and my cats haha. So mental health was definitely something that I struggled with the most.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a cosmetologist at the Pink Mullet Salon Carothers in Franklin. I do all things hair. Blonding, perms, hair extensions, etc. I would say what I am known for and what sets me apart is for sure my personality. It was not an easy thing to adjust to how things are down south compared to up north. I am most proud of myself for not giving up and continuing to push forward.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Confidence. I would not say that I am 100% all the way confident but I do believe that it is important. When doing hair, if you show you lack confidence towards a client, it starts to diminish the trust between ya’ll. I did not get where I am today by lacking confidence in my craft. It is always going to be a work in progress as I continue to grow.
