Life & Work with Nikki Boros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Boros.

Nikki Boros

Hi Nikki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all began in 2017 with Nikki Boros Photography. I did weddings, families, seniors, boudoirs, pets…you name it. In 2021 I realized I wanted to specialize in boudoir. Helping empower women has become my passion! Every woman is perfect just how they are and the boudoir helps them see how that.

I opened a 2,800-square-foot studio in Colorado, our grand opening was just 4 days before the COVID outbreak and shutdown. We had to close our doors for nearly 4 months! Once we were able to reopen we did, and hit the ground running! Less than a year later life threw another curve ball at us and we ended up moving across the country.

Things lined up much faster than expected and we moved to Smyrna, Tennessee in October 2020. Being in a new state with a fresh start was the perfect time to make changes, leading to the creation of Southern Honey Boudoir. We have worked with hundreds of women and look forward to many more.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like for many small businesses, the effects of COVID have been a challenge. The shutdown was days after opening our dream studio.

Even years later the economy has changed making boudoir a difficult purchase for many. Boudoir is an investment and isn’t cheap but we have created payment plans and ways to help keep it affordable and obtainable.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer with two brands. My family, weddings, pets, kids…all the PG stuff is under Nikki Boros Photography. I started with this business in 2017 and it quickly took off. My style is bright with bold colors and a mix of posed and candid shots.

In 2020, I opened Southern Honey Boudoir which offers traditional, bridal, cosplay, and couples boudoir in Smyrna, TN. Our studio has three STUNNING sets and a client closet with over 90 outfits to choose from in sizes S-4XL. My style is on the dark and moody side with vibrant colors. We do classy yet sexy images with amazing props and sets. We have 6-foot feather angel wings that are to die for!

With both brands, I love my job. I get to meet amazing people and help capture images that will be treasured for a lifetime.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My personality and approach to sessions. I understand that most people are nervous in front of the camera (I know I am). I try to make all of my sessions fun and relaxed to eliminate those nerves. If clients don’t say they have a ton of fun after the session I don’t feel like I did my job.

I crack cheesy jokes, we chat about random stuff and become instant friends. I have had clients start their session shaking with nerves but 10 minutes later they are completely relaxed and having a great time. It’s my random but amazing superpower.
