Life & Work with Porsha Scruggs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsha Scruggs.

Hi Porsha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I never thought I would become a blogger/influencer. Yes, I love to write, but not formally. I’m more into journaling. I was always a listening ear for others, but it was always hard for me to voice my feelings. Journaling became my escape. In 2019, a friend invited me to Blogger Xpo here in Nashville. We took different classes that would help us build a brand. Honestly, I was just going to support my friend and her newfound passion. My friend wanted to use her blog as a way to heal from a trauma. It was then I realized I could do the same. I finally knew that I wanted to be a lifestyle blogger with the majority of my focus being on mental health. I wanted to talk about the traumas I had been through in hopes that I could help just one person to heal. I started out targeting a very broad audience, then I realized I needed to focus on young black women. The stigma in the black community surrounding being a “strong black woman” was one I wanted to help to break. I wanted to target young black women because I feel that a lot of the things I experienced occurred between the ages of 18-25. I did not have access to mentors that placed an emphasis on mental health. This is how From Porsha With Love was birthed. Using From Porsha With Love, I use my personal experiences to encourage young woman to heal from traumas, focus on self-love, and to seek professional help if necessary.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to launching my brand has not been easy, but it has been a great learning experience. In 2019, I knew that I wanted to be a blogger but I had no idea what my niche would be. I chose lifestyle because that niche allows you to cover a broad range of topics. I would start on my website, but then I would quit because I knew that I really wanted to go in another direction. I would get so frustrated because I knew I had a purpose for this blog, but I could not figure out what it was. When the pandemic started, it caused me to still and I began to work on some personal healing. This is when I started sharing my mental health journey. I had no idea my audience wanted to hear about my healing process. The pandemic was a blessing in disguise for my brand. I knew then that I would be a mental health advocate.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a lifestyle blogger. My main focus is fashion and mental health. I love fashion so I love to post pictures of my outfits, but I love speaking to my audience about the importance of mental health. I feel it is important that I post what I truly deal with. I use my personal experiences to encourage others to heal their past traumas. Mental health has always had such a negative stigma causing people to be afraid to speak out about the things they are feeling. I am proud that I am able to show women that look like me that it is ok to talk about their feelings, it’s okay to admit that they are overwhelmed. I want them to know that I see them, I hear them, and they are not alone.

This is an awesome and inspiring interview. I have been wrestling with direction for my business and this helped. Nothing like moving forward in your purpose.
