Life & Work with Rob Dee of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Dee.

Rob, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I became interested in becoming a Rapper in 1985 while watching the film ”Krush Groove”. I saw LL Cool J and that was all it took for me. I later started writing my own raps while beating on a table. It was 1997 when I dropped my first project and got my name started. During this stretch I have now featured a Platinum selling Artist Project Pat. I was sampled by mainstream Artist Fabolous on a song titled ”Options”.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been everything, but smooth. Naturally, an Artist starts at home because home is closest. I was met with a lot of disapproval from the public, the radio djs, the club djs, record stores and anybody you can think of within the entertainment circle. I remember people of the public telling me that I wasn’t good enough. I’ve been told that I was too old skool, couldn’t rap, too old, etc. It was even a record store back in the early 2000s that I visited weekly just to check on sales. In that record store I always found my CD buried beneath a pile of paper instead of being on the rack where it was originally placed. I noticed early in my career that home was the worst when it came to the lack of support.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Actor, I am a Host, but I am mainly known for being a Recording Artist. I will say I am equally talented in Acting and Rappin’ although I have a bigger passion for film. I’m unique because I move to the beat of my own drum. I know exactly what the people want today and I still refuse to lower my standards to promote such. I am a man that stands on the same morals and values I learned as a child. I pride myself on being true to self and not being a slave to the dollar. After being featured on Druski’s ”Coulda Been Records” Nashville Auditions, I beat the walls down at my PRO ”BMI”. I wanted to be covered in an article by them because of my milestone post my Druski appearance. That milestone was that my song ”Where’s My D” received 10,300 spins on Apple Music the night I aired on Druski’s show. I was met with opposition by my society, but I would not stop until they faced the facts that I had achieved a great accomplishment.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is going to see LL Cool J at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.
