Life & Work with Samantha Bolin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Bolin.

Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Being in the beauty industry has been my dream since I was a little girl. I planned on going through beauty school straight out of high school, but on the day that I was admitted, I found out that I was pregnant. Life took a different turn for me as I ended up married and a mom by 19 years old. I had decided to go the more “traditional” route for school and ended up getting a degree online for medical office administration. All that time, the beauty industry was in the back of my mind. Fast forward a little bit, I found myself in a position to go to beauty school. My family and I had just relocated to a tiny town in Arizona, and I began beauty school after just two weeks of living there. My passion for the industry only grew throughout my school journey and I found that the customer service aspect of it was my driving force. In March 2021, I founded Salty Blue Hair Co with the mission to help people feel seen, heard, beautiful and loved. Salty Blue is a safe space and an escape from the chaos in the day to day outside world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has only just begun! My biggest struggle along the way was and still is my battle with imposter syndrome. Sometimes I wonder if I’m truly qualified to run a business, but I always remember that I was called to do this for a reason.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When you’re in my chair, I focus on creating a fully custom look for you. I specialize in hair color and can create some really beautiful brunette, red, balayage, and lived-in looks. I’m a Redken Certified Haircolorist, and that gives me a lot of tools in my toolbox to get creative with your hair while maintaining its health and integrity. I think my custom approach with hair health and integrity taking top priority really sets me apart from others.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Have courage. You can do anything you set your mind to.
