Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Dominick.
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I actually went to school for cosmetology and had set out to pursue a career in the hair world. Once I graduated and started interviewing at salons I randomly had an opportunity arise as an optician in a high end optical boutique in Nashville. I had no experience in optical whatsoever but took a chance on it. I have now spent 15 years as an optician. I went on to manage a boutique optical shop in Franklin and started doing the buying for the store. Eventually, I started feeling the need to push myself a little more outside of my comfort zone so I took the leap into becoming a frame consultant. It has been a really nice change of pace and has been so rewarding to have the freedom to plan my days for what works for me. I get to meet new people, create new relationships, and travel to different optical offices all over the state of Tennessee. I just celebrated my first year as a frame consultant and am loving it!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I got hired I didn’t immediately get a lot of training so I kind of had to fake it till I made it and learn as I went. Our company recently just sent us to Mexico for a conference where I got to meet all the reps in the US and Canada. We had amazing trainings and workshops that were hugely beneficial. Meeting and talking to others out in the same field as me has been so helpful and I’m feeling so much more confident.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a frame consultant for an independent eyewear company. My job is to ensure that the optical offices that carry our lines continue to thrive by making sure they have the best representation of current and best selling frames for their customers. While servicing existing clients I am also actively perusing new doors to introduce our product to and help grow our reach as a company.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I moved to Nashville with my family when I was going into the 3rd grade. I have watched the city grow enormously. There are so many fun things to do, great places to eat, and the people are so talented, creative, and kind. The only negative thing I could really say about it would be how much it costs to live here.
