Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Parol
Hi Tina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My parents immigrated to America from Poland. I consider this a huge part of what made me who I am, because I come from very little economic stability and appreciate that America is a place where you can achieve so much. I would not be where I am today had my parents not immigrated to the United States. At the age of 8, I was diagnosed with scoliosis and wore a back brace. I was made fun of a lot. By age 19, I signed a major label record deal with Universal Motown Records and by 21, I released a top 40 Billboard pop single as an artist. I got to tour around America, hear my song on the radio, see my video on MTV, and endorse fashion brands I loved. I was living in NYC at the time too. So many of my dreams came true. I ended up moving to LA and then Nashville. I have written songs for Lady A, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Sabrina Carpenter, and more. I also write my own artist music under Tina Parol and license my songs to film and tv shows, as well as ads. Two years ago, I underwent a 10-hour spinal fusion surgery to correct my scoliosis. It was brutal and a tough recovery. But I am tougher. I came out the other side, thank God, stronger than ever.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My road has not been smooth. Immigration was tough on my parents, who divorced. My parents struggle with their emotions as well, and they come from a culture and generation that does not seek therapy. They are however, incredibly resilient people and I get that from them. Due to wearing a back brace, I was made fun of in school and as a result, I suffered with bulimia for over a decade. I am so happy to be past that, with the help of my faith and therapy. My scoliosis is difficult for me, as I have pain every day. I manage it and some days are better than others, but it is still hard to live with a fused spine and a 14-level spinal fusion. The music business has it’s own struggles, with lots of unknowns in the industry, especially with the surge of AI.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I write songs for films, tv shows, commercials, and promos. I also write songs for pop artists, country artists, Christian artists, and any other form of musical artist. I love what I do. I am most proud of being diverse as a songwriter. My songs have been in TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Riverdale and more, but also in ads for Target, Maybelline, Peloton, and Kohl’s. I have also had #1 Billboard country songs as a songwriter. I co-wrote “Champagne Night” for Lady A, which was a 3-week Billboard #1. That song won us the CCMA for Songwriters of the Year in 2021. I also co-wrote “Jersey On The Wall” with Tenille Townes and Gordie Sampson, which was a #1 in Canada and won us the CCMA for Songwriters of the Year in 2020. I am really proud of those back-to-back CCMA wins. “Jersey On The Wall” holds a special place in my heart, as a lot of personal stuff went into that song.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I give most credit to God. God has opened doors for me that I could not open myself. I also am so thankful to my parents, for their example of hard-work and resilience. Without that instilled in me, I could not have progressed in the music industry. My husband is my biggest fan and supporter. He believed in me starting a publishing company before I ever had that thought. We started G23 together, and I am so proud of all of our success. He really makes me believe in myself and push myself. I have a supportive team in sync as well, and am thankful for that and for every publisher I have ever been signed to, because I learned so much along the way.
