Hi Tyrus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I joined band after middle school and became a percussionist that learned to play mallet instruments and auxillary percussion. After I graduated in 2015, fast forward to 2018, I started going to SAE in Nashville to begin my music career. This is where I met J. Joy and the rest was history.I moved back home to be a care taker in my family in 2020. I put out my 1st beat tape at the end of 2020 then I interned at his label A&G music group in 2021-2022, then I officially signed in 2023. After that we were nominated in the SEA Awards, signed an Artist (MINDFrame) @Thankgodimframe, and now in the works to drop my 1st official beat tape named Catch My Tears. Im excited for the future and what’s next.!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a care taker of small children, grandmother, and great grandmother was difficult to say the least. Being there for them while pursuing this dream tested everything. I also suffered an injury by tearing my right meniscus and then delt with surgery, while also staying on top of responsibilities. My grandma unfortunately passed on my 25th birthday in 2022 and her mother, my great grandma, passed in 2023 a couple days before my birthday. Granda passed May 31 2022, Great Grandma passed May 29th, 2023. So staying the course was challenging. Also delt with ridicule and doubt by people making me feel like I wasn’t doing enough or wasn’t trying to be anything in life because I chose myself. I understand that it was all a test and I passed!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in music production. My melodies and drum patterns made me valuable to A&G music group where I am signed as such. I’m proud of the fact I didn’t give up. If I did then I would have regretted it. Because if others can be successful in this craft, I can be as well!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
It makes me happy that I’m included in any of this. All the people that do what I do and I’m the one blessed enough to actually pursue this. It makes me happy that I see the elevation of the skill set and the opportunity over time. It feels good knowing there is space for me.
