Life & Work with Victoria Lauer of Franklin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Lauer

Victoria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From a young age, I was passionate about designing my room and experimenting with design programs. This early excitement made it clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career in either architecture or interior design after high school. I pursued my studies in Indiana, where I grew up, and then moved to New York City to join a kitchen and bath design firm.

Over the years, I moved frequently—first back to Indiana, then to the suburbs of Chicago, and finally settling in Franklin in 2021, which I now proudly call home. With each role I took on, I embraced more responsibilities, which eventually led me to my current position as a lead designer. This journey has allowed me to grow significantly and gain the experience necessary to excel in my field.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The design field certainly has its ups and downs, and I’ve faced my share of challenges, including many rejections along the way. It’s taken years of perseverance, learning from setbacks, and continuously pushing forward to reach the point where I am today.

One of the toughest aspects of being a designer is presenting and selling your designs. Not everyone will resonate with them, and it can be disheartening at times. However, I remind myself to stay resilient and view each experience as an opportunity for growth. These challenges ultimately make me stronger and more adaptable in my career.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my role as an interior designer specializing in kitchen and bathroom design at Sebring Design Build, a luxury residential firm, I focus on transforming outdated spaces into stunning new interiors. Our expertise lies in space planning and redesigning to better align with our clients’ needs. We thrive on starting from scratch and applying our creativity to each project.

What distinguishes me in this field is my commitment to building genuine relationships with clients. I see them as partners in the design process rather than just transactions. This approach aligns closely with the values of our company, where Bryan Sebring, the owner, also emphasizes creating a family-like atmosphere. It’s this personal touch and dedication that make working with us a unique and enjoyable experience.

I’m most proud of earning my NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) certification. While there are several certifications available and I’m working towards obtaining more, passing the initial test required studying and dedication, making it a significant accomplishment for me.

What does success mean to you?
To me, success isn’t solely about financial achievements. Instead, it’s about measuring how far you’ve come and maintaining a healthy balance between your professional and personal life. While movies and societal portrayals often depict success as working late nights in high-rise offices or attending fancy dinners, they often miss a crucial element: personal time.

True success, in my view, involves finding that right balance between work and personal life. It’s about achieving professional goals while also ensuring you have time for yourself and your loved ones. Gaining the wisdom to understand and maintain this balance is a journey that develops over time. Ultimately, success means reaching a point where you feel fulfilled and content in both your career and personal life.
