Life & Work with Zach Day

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Day.

Zach, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in the hills of Kentucky, I learned how to sing and make music by studying the nuances of three-part harmony in a folk trio. My friends and I would skip school to teach each other how to sing and play guitar and figure out what we could do to help each other sound good.

I sang in jazz vocal groups and black gospel groups throughout college and was a successful background vocalist for local artists. I moved to Nashville at the top of the pandemic. I spent a year in quarantine in a new city before being sponsored as an artist in residence at Kinect, Nashville, and making a lot of great connections.

My presence on social media began to grow and I have now toured as an opening act for several bands and artists throughout the country.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being from a small town, I never got the opportunity to perform or make my presence known, I mostly had to study the nuances of the greats and just become prepared to shine once I had my chance.

Then moving to Nashville after graduating college truly right before Covid canceled everything I had going for me, I was at a low point for sure.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an openly gay artist/singer-songwriter currently residing in Nashville. I have recently begun playing shows all over the country and making a name for myself as a force to be reckoned with.

If Justin Timberlake and Jason Mraz had a baby that grew up listening to Carole King with a little bit of Thom Yorke, you’d have me.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lessons that I have learned are to continue to push, take the opportunities that are presented to you, don’t be late, and drink a lot of water.
