Life & Work with Zach + Nicole Weaver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach + Nicole Weaver.

Zach + Nicole, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Zach and I met when working for a non-profit on media projects together (campaigns, promotions, events, etc.) in Southern California. Zach had become a TV Film Director while living in Sydney, AUS + I had been taking photos for as long as I could remember. We became fast friends + to make a long story short; we fell in love while traveling along the East Coast. We then got married + quickly realized we were both obsessed with storytelling. No typical job would sustain us. What started as doing a favor for a friend’s backyard elopement became our full-time passion. To document using raw, natural moments that took your breath away. To capture emotion in the movement of hair + blur of dancing feet above anything else. We live + breathe it. We have been full-time photo + video ever since we got married, + it has been our greatest honor.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Most people tend to ask us about our work dynamic as a married duo, but the imposter syndrome hits us hard. We are so thankful to have our best friend + teammate working by our side to be able to speak the truth to us when we need it. I am Z’s biggest fan, + I am so confident knowing he is mine. Social media can tell the narrative of everyone thriving but you. We once heard that the tension of not being exactly where you want to be yet could last for years + years, but it’s those who press through it while feeling suffocated by it succeed. We choose through comparison + imposter syndrome to press through the tension. Celebration is our biggest way to combat comparison.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a wedding photo + video duo specializing in well, both (we’ve trained each other well, haha). But we are most known for our Wedding Highlight Films. We also incorporate a lot of film photography, such as polaroid + 35mm, into our work. Zach has pioneered that front. He hates the typical wedding film + pursued storytelling that feels true to himself. Our goal with every film is to entirely enrapture the feeling + moments of the day. We explain our films as more documentary-style highlight films than most brides have seen before. We tell the day sequentially + incorporate a lot of raw, tender moments to draw our viewers in. We edit all our films off feeling. We know it’s done once we get goosebumps or tear up!

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
That rest is more important than deadlines. Z + I have a work ethic of excellence; we bring our best to the table! We firmly believe that rest is where creativity flows from + that a couple of hours of doing nothing/napping can transform how we edit + shoot + it is ALWAYS worth it! But we have pushed so hard, thinking blood, sweat, + tears was excellence, that we don’t rest and, as a result, don’t bring TRUE excellence.
