Life & Work with Zelena Hull of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zelena Hull

Hi Zelena, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my music journey after a friend of mine recommend vocal lessons; however, my mother and I decided to start with piano first. I started writing songs at 11 or 12. I eventually fell in love with writing songs and composition instead of just performing. All of this was a gradual process. I always look for new ways to challenge myself. After I had attended college for a while I decided to start on a big project: Single of the week. I’ve been releasing a new single every Friday for two plus years. So far its 126 songs total. My goal is at least 150.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Currently, I’m doing single of the week. I want to get my world record registered, but the process has not been easy. I was working on my record for over a year when I was notified that some songs wouldn’t count because they were too short (under two minutes). I will have to wait and see if my record will be able to be officiated. If its not I still broke the record, it just won’t be recorded officially.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started with country rock; however, when I commenced single of the week I quickly realized that I wanted to expand my horizons. I started to create songs in various genres like jazz, pop, and acoustic singer-songwriter. Over these two years I’ve incorporated more experimental material. Now I’ve also released classical, dungeon synth, scifi, electronica, and acoustic instrumentals. One week I’ll do a rock song with lyrics about heartbreak and then the next I’ll do a wintry classical piece. My work is like a box of chocolates, every week its something new.
