Lisa Goe on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Lisa Goe and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Lisa , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What battle are you avoiding?
I am very sentimental and have a hard time letting go of things as if they have actual life, when truly the life it has is what i’ve breathed into it. (Sometimes this goes for relationships as well oops!)

It becomes extremely cathartic for me to have my time to decide where things will go. Trash, Donate, Sell, Keep. With little time due to my full schedule, the time I may have to go through things becomes more tedious and time consuming. The avoidance is letting go of things more quickly. Its a challenge that I feel i’m getting better at and also try to give myself grace due to my day to day schedule.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey there!

I’m Lisa Goe. I’m a Singer, Songwriter, Events Coordinator, and local morning cohost on Lightning100!

As an entrepeneur within the music and entertainment industry every day is a new adventure. Although it can be fun, it can also be exhausting as my schedule is 24/7.

As a singer/songwriter I am always moved when people I write with decide to make one of our songs one of their releases. I also have been really enjoying top lining melodies and lyrics for EDM/ dance music as well as enjoying a few songs being placed for tv, film, and social media.

As a radio djay and local to Nashville since 2008, it brings me the most joy to have people come together within the Nashville community. It is so satisfying being able to support local musicians and businesses with such an incredible independent radio station like Lightning100.

In 2016 I captained a company called Popoff Nashville that was maybe one of the most exciting times of my life in Nashville. I was able to create an organization that encouraged people to gather with the same goal of meeting others in the pop music scene which took on a beautiful path of its own and allowed me to cross paths with a vast array of community leaders including Wes Davenport, Thalia, Ewing, Chris Martignago, Josiah Corbin and several others.

Currently I’ve been entertaining the idea of beginning a podcast and actually releasing some hidden songs written in 2020 that I definitely was overthinking around the business side of things when they were created. In retrospect, I would have put them out forever ago!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents are powerhouse people when it comes to being entrepreneurs. My Dad definitely dominates when it comes to taking on his own. His company, G&G Construction’s motto is “If we can’t do it, you don’t need it” and yes, my father is his own MacGyver.

Watching him build and create his company with not only hard work and diligence, but also his relationships within our community set the standard for me and my work eithic. My mom also left her corporate job to start her own business which has shown me that I can literally go for whatever I want. You have an idea, a vision, you walk towards it. The problems along the way, you find the solutions, you don’t force it, and soon enough you’ll learn a new skill and voila! New adventure!

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think we all have those moments of giving up. I had not been involved in radio for years but it always stuck with me and I just believed if it was for me, then it would show itself. Music and all parts of entertainment has ebbed and flowed this way for me.

In 2023 I hit a pretty low low, recognizing I had a job I was barely able to live off of, music placements were still difficult, I had been in and out of an unsavory relationship, and my sister and I were talking and she said “What is keeping you in Nashville?”

She was right. I always wanted to check out Australia, so I threw everything in a storage unit, and was ready to apply for a Visa, when I received a call from Lightning100! and couldn’t pass up the opportunity of a station and community I really had grown to love. Within the next 24 hours I also received a call for a job I had applied for which I hadn’t expected and everything lined up to keep me in Nashville. I was in that moment ready to thank and leave Nashville, and she pulled me back in.

I feel in times of “giving up” it shows itself more as a new opportunity, and in not forcing the flow, I have found myself right where I am supposed to be right when I need it.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would say for myself my publice and private self are pretty similar. I can be a little spacey, giggly, goofy, in public.

In private, I do tend to be more isolated then I think most would assume. I’m a big craft, project, diy gal, and I love a potluck game and dinner night over a loud bar. I get a bit distracted and overstimulated in public but I enjoy being in the middle of the fun. Although I spend a lot of time with people, it is a lot of meeting new faces which is a treat but sometimes I’m just not having the best day and want to observe rather than engage.

What you hear in the morning on the radio is absolutely, me talking to myself with an audience and I truly have the best time doing it.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I took up tap dancing this year actually! It’s been a life goal of mine since I was very young and I finally found a class. I would love to go more often but my schedule has not allowed me the time to improve. Learning it has been everything I’d hoped it would be. It is so fun!

As far as tap dancing to work, I am very lucky to enjoy it on a daily basis. Although truthfully, the early hours are not easy!

Opportunities that I have to write music with people is always fulfilling and has carried me to many incredible places. I love writing and creating music so much and really hope to release something of my own soon.
