Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa and Anna Beth Fishman.
Hi Alexa and Anna Beth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
We’re a mother-daughter duo and refer to ourselves as biohackers. Biohacking by definition is the art and science of changing the environment around you and inside of you so you can have more control over your own biology. Anna Beth (my mom) was raised by a physician and was taught consistently throughout her life to treat her body as a temple. My mom raised me and my siblings with the same philosophy. As I grew up, my mom and I both became trusting sources of health recommendations and ways to improve your quality of life to others, whether it was food, skincare, workout routines, or supplements. When I was in nursing school my mom and I decided to join forces and create a blog where people can find our advice, and find our latest interests and recommendations to living your best life. Since then, we have been successful with our blog on Instagram, @abiohackersjourney, and are just wrapping up the second season of our podcast called, This. Is. Biohacking. Our podcast has been such an incredible experience interviewing and learning from health experts in our community such as doctors, life coaches, and front-line workers. We look forward to seeing where 2022 takes us to reach even more people and learn with them at the same table.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been as smooth as we would like. We are relatively small but mighty and really are grateful for our audioence. Although the number is small and growing, our interactions and interest have proven us otherwise. It’s been really rewarding seeing how our interests and time spent learning how to improve our health has benefitted others. So, I guess you could say, one of our struggles is our growth rate, but as my mom always say, “As fast as you can, as slow as you must.”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My mom is a teacher and certified Gallup Strength Finders Coach. Coming from over 19+ years of teaching in the classroom, she made the transition this year to teach the educators in learning how they can be their best selves through understanding their personal strengths with Strength Finders and using them to a school district’s advantage to facilitate a better understanding for the way educators interact with one another and ultimately serving their students better in their learning. She is also a certified hot power yoga teacher through Core Power and plans to pursue this once she retires from education.
As for myself, I am a registered nurse and am enjoying my first couple of years in the workplace. I’m slowly learning, like my mom leadership is very important to me, and I plan to go back to school to get my master’s to educate student nurses and also transition into becoming a nurse practitioner.
What sets my mom and me apart from others is our journeys were based solely on helping others find their passion to be their best self while doing what they love.
We both share a deep admiration for Simon Sinek, author, and motivational speaker. One of our favorite quotes of his is, “When we know why we do what we do, everything falls into place. When we don’t, we have to push things into place.”
What were you like growing up?
Growing up my mom and I were both social people, hardworking, overachievers, and in tune with the world around us and learning how each person is individually beautiful. We want to help humans become their best self……as fast as they can and as slow as they must.
