Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Buchannon.
Hi Alexis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I had my daughter at 23 years old and I just needed to figure out who I was as a woman outside of being a mother, and that led me to beauty school. I went to beauty school in Knoxville, Tennessee at Tennessee school of beauty in 2020 graduated in 2021 and immediately moved to the middle Tennessee area after being hired on with a brand new company based out of Arizona. My role eventually became regional manager and lead aesthetician. I worked for them for about three years before I decided to go out on my and I have been in business for myself for roughly 2 years and thriving. The road has certainly not been easy and being a first generation entrepreneur, I don’t have many examples of this, but learning along the way has been challenging, yet rewarding.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but it has definitely been a lot of lessons and blessings along the way. When I first moved to the middle Tn area, my daughter was four and I did not bring her with me at first. I wanted to get everything set up and ready so that she could be stable and comfortable. I went from never being away from my daughter to then leaving her to go to a new city hours away. That super hard for us both and I felt really guilty, but I knew that if I pulled it off and stated the course it would be for the better in the long run . When I first got here, things did not pan out the way that it was presented to me in the beginning with the new role at the new job and so I had to pivot and take some detours, but in the end, it all worked out. We spent about a year apart and then she was able to come and move here with me and start kindergarten in middle Tennessee. What I thought would only take me about six months to get together took me almost a year to save up enough money to get our own place and get moved in. So I would say that that was the biggest challenge. As well as now that I am an entrepreneur making the decision to leave my job where I was comfortable, but I had pretty much capped out with the company. So I made a decision to leave the job and my position where I was making pretty good money and able to sustain and take care of us to the uncertainty of entrepreneurship. It has 100% not been easy. I was blessed to leave that previous role and most of my clients followed over and they have been supporting me since.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As a five year licensed aesthetician, I specialize in full body waxing and sugaring, as well as brow artistry. I offer services in skin care as well. These include customized and basic facials. I would say I am most known for speed waxing and brow artistry. I would say what sets me apart is the authentic experience that my clients receive when coming to me I am very quick, but also very thorough. I am always concerned with the health and integrity of my client skin.
