Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvaro Hernandez
Hi Alvaro, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and moved to the U.S. at age 9. Growing up, I lived in different states and cities, which shaped me in a lot of ways. By the time I was 18, I found myself in Nashville, where I began my journey as a photographer. My childhood of constant movement made me appreciate the stillness in everyday moments. Photography became a way to capture those small, often overlooked scenes.
I’m a self taught photographer who started with street photography as a way to practice, but it quickly grew into something more. I fell in love with the streets, the people I met, and the stories they shared. That experience laid the foundation for my freelance business, The Lucky Aperture. Over time, my skills naturally transitioned into portraiture and concert photography, which fits well with being based in Nashville. Now, I bring that same level of authenticity and storytelling into every shot, whether it’s on the street, at a concert, or in a portrait session. This journey led me to establish The Lucky Aperture, where I focus on creating completely custom content that aligns with each client’s unique vision and needs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Chasing your dreams and passions rarely is. As a young artist in a city like Nashville, which is filled with talented photographers, it was tough to stand out. I struggled with finding my place and figuring out how to get noticed. But the more I focused on honing my craft and developing my style, the more I started to see some attention coming my way. After just one year of living in Nashville, I had one of my photos featured in Geodis Park and was part of an exhibition where I shared a piece of my story alongside three other talented artists. That experience was a big turning point for me, and it also fueled my desire to create something meaningful.
We’ve been impressed with The Lucky Aperture , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Here’s the revised version with artists included:
My freelance business, The Lucky Aperture, is a new addition to my life, but it’s built on years of experience and growth as a photographer. The business focuses on collaborating with brands, businesses, and artists to create content that’s completely custom to their needs. Every client’s budget, brand, and goals are different, and I’m there every step of the way to make sure they get exactly what they paid for. I offer a wide range of services, from short-form content to professional photography to full video productions, all designed to fit your marketing needs.
What sets The Lucky Aperture apart is that it’s not just about providing a service or clicking a button. It’s about truly understanding what each brand, business, or artist represents and creating visuals that capture that identity. As the owner and operator, I’m not just an artist but also a young entrepreneur who takes pride in delivering high-quality work that feels both personal and professional. I’m proud of the flexibility and creative range my brand offers, allowing clients to get exactly what they’re looking for, no matter how unique their vision may be. This is a new chapter for me, but it’s one that I’m fully committed to growing, with the same dedication that has guided me through every challenge along the way.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is a tricky thing. It plays a role, but it’s often more about being open to opportunities when they present themselves. While luck can lead to good outcomes, it doesn’t guarantee them. It’s really about staying ready and being adaptable when things don’t go as planned. There have definitely been moments of bad luck, but what stands out more is how those challenges were handled and what was learned from them. Luck might open a door, but it’s the ability to step through it and keep moving forward that makes the difference. That’s not to say that pure luck hasn’t saved my life a few times though.
