Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Volpe
Hi Anna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, music was always apart of my life- I had a somewhat unique childhood because both of my parents were heavily involved in the classical performing arts in NYC. There was a time during high school and college where I really didn’t think I was going to pursue a career in performing and music but that mindset definitely changed after college where I started to sing backup for other artists and bands, got to perform on some fairly big festival stages through the US as well.
In 2017, I decided to take a step back from performing and singing other people’s music to start writing and performing my own. After releasing several singles and EP album, I then signed with a licensing and publishing company based in LA called Think Music, Inc and with their help I’ve been able to secure placements on networks such as NBC, Freeform, ABC, HBO, MTV, Disney, etc.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has and definitely will continue to have its highs and lows for sure! I think looking back on the last few years, there were certain decisions or paths I probably wouldn’t have taken if I knew the knowledge that I know now but the only thing you can do is learn from your mistakes. I think the biggest struggle I deal with these days is self-doubt. I try to combat it by thinking how much I have grown over the years and remembering that the only true competition is myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer, songwriter, and producer writing indie folk and pop music as well as writing for mixed media (TV, film, etc.). You might have heard my music on TV shows like The Kardashians, All American, Hard Knocks, Good Trouble, etc. I would say what I am most proud of at the moment are the songs that I am not only writing but solo producing as well. I am starting to dip my feet in production and I am really excited to see where this path will take me.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think the subject of risk taking can be a complicated one. I am big believer in getting out of your comfort zone and being able to sit in the uncomfortable but I also think we should still be strategic and smart about what risks to take and what to avoid. I think risk taking also needs to take into account the unique situation and circumstances a person is in and that looks different for everyone. I would say a major risk I have taken this year is consciously taking more time each day to work on learning production and producing songs that might never leave my hard drive. I know it’s a risk I need to take in order to help grow my career in music and my aspirations to work in sound design.
