Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Solis Gomez.
Hi Ariana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Mexico, and after graduating with a bachelor’s in marketing, I moved to Washington, D.C., where I worked at the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the representation of Latinos in the C-suite and boardroom. Before moving to the U.S., the concept of diversity, equity, and inclusion was foreign to me. However, my time at HACR sparked a newfound interest.
Seeking to expand my expertise, I pursued a master’s degree in public relations and corporate communications at Georgetown University, intending to transition into the PR and corporate sectors. I then transitioned into an executive communications role at a global law firm, but soon into the role, I found myself yearning for work that felt more personally meaningful. This led me to Culture ONE World, a communications agency focused on improving the quality of life of underserved communities through impactful communications campaigns.
Having worked with Fortune 500, nonprofit organizations, and federal agencies underscored the urgent need for organizations to bridge the gap between their internal cultures and the evolving demands of their employees and consumers. Through that realization, I decided to take a leap of faith. I found Unconventional Tactics, a one-stop-shop business dedicated to catalyzing meaningful and lasting change in the corporate landscape by prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
By partnering with organizations to address systemic barriers and cultivate inclusive cultures, we aim to not only enhance business performance but also contribute to building a more just and equitable society.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be honest, my journey has been quite challenging, but it has also been a tremendous learning experience that has shaped my resilience.
While the idea of the “American dream” is often romanticized, the reality of cultural shock and identity crisis for immigrants is seldom discussed. Despite these obstacles, I consider myself fortunate for the opportunities I’ve encountered and deeply grateful for the support system that has been instrumental in my journey.
Transitioning into a new corporate culture in a foreign country was certainly not a walk in the park. It required adaptation and navigating uncharted territory. Nonetheless, fueled by a determination to succeed, I remained steadfast in my pursuit of excellence.
Launching Unconventional Tactics represented a significant departure from my previous experiences. Stepping into the realm of entrepreneurship was unfamiliar and scary. However, I approach this new chapter with a sense of curiosity and optimism, eager to explore the opportunities that lie ahead and the potential impact I can make.
As you know, we’re big fans of Unconventional Tactics. For our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand, what can you tell them about it?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One surprising aspect that many people might not know about me is the depth of resilience I’ve cultivated throughout my journey. While my professional endeavors might portray a sense of determination and achievement, few may realize the extent of the challenges I’ve faced. Moving to a new country, adapting to a different culture, and grappling with the nuances of immigration and identity have been significant hurdles that have shaped my path.
Moreover, while my career trajectory may suggest a seamless progression, the truth is that entrepreneurship was a leap into the unknown for me. Before founding Unconventional Tactics, I had limited exposure to the world of entrepreneurship. Yet, fueled by a relentless drive to make a difference, I embraced the challenge head-on.
Overall, behind the facade of professional accomplishments lies a story of resilience, adaptation, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty—a side of me that may surprise many who know me solely through my work or brand.
