Meet Ashley Ghostkeeper

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Ghostkeeper.

Ashley Ghostkeeper

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story started with my family, and that direct influence was from a little girl. Watching my grampa play the fiddle and sing, my aunty chording, and my older cousin always singing. I was gifted my first guitar at 8 years old, but it wasn’t until I was 17 that I decided to pick it up myself.

Writing songs, poetry, and singing anthems was the extent of my music career until the age of 23, when my producer found me. I have been chasing my music ever since and playing live shows.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road is sometimes as bumpy as a back road or smooth in spots. It’s always changing; I choose the path that will grow me the quickest and the challenges I can face to learn from and take those lessons to further my music and my development as an artist. I don’t look at it as a good or bad time.

It’s all experiences, and we need to experience the yin and yang to achieve that perfect balance.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a country singer-songwriter. I perform all over Alberta and have played festivals in Winnipeg and the Sunshine Coast in BC.

I write all my songs and continue to write from my personal life and experiences. My rooted country sound of the 90s and early 2000s sets me apart from others. I have a deep love for this era of country music and the genuine lyrics that tell a relatable story from the heart.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I am working on bigger projects, collaborating with songwriters from all over. I’ll be cutting my first album later this year. Moving down south is the goal. And just touring on the road!
