Meet Athanasios Lazarou

Today we’d like to introduce you to Athanasios Lazarou.

Hi Athanasios, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first began working with video back in 2009, where I started out playing with special effects, creating Star Wars-inspired videos and rotoscoping lightsabers, blasters, etc. for fun. My professional association with video however started around 2014, when I began to create music videos for classmates at the conservatory in Athens where I was studying.

After that, when I moved to Boston to study film scoring at Berklee, I would create music videos for classmates, professors, and more as a side hustle while I was studying, in addition to working for the college’s official YouTube production department.

After that, I moved to Missouri to work on feature films and gain some firsthand experience in a range of departments including assistant director, camera operation, on-set sound, grip, lighting, wardrobe, and costume design.

I continued working on feature films in Greece during Covid, and have since recently moved to Nashville to pursue both film and freelance video focusing on music videos, promo videos, advertisements, etc.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, I would say it’s been fairly smooth, I believe I’m a hard worker and so when I apply myself fully to something I’m able to overcome many of the day-to-day challenges.

COVID hit pretty hard, to be honest, and set me back in my career, but I’m looking forward now to building a new client base and helping as many artists as I can achieve their visions through my videos!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would say the greatest portion of my experience lies in the production of music videos; I enjoy working with artists who have a clear vision of what they want to achieve and bringing that vision to life in the most effective and aesthetically pleasing way possible is very satisfying.

I’d like to think that my attention to detail and quality control in my work, combined with my responsiveness and reliability in terms of delivering videos on or before agreed-upon deadlines will help set me apart from other videographers in the area.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m not sure if this is relevant at all haha but I love to cook, I love “extreme” sports like snowboarding and drifting, and I’ve dabbled in many crafts including leatherworking, woodworking, and metalworking.
