Meet Auburn McCormick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Auburn McCormick. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Auburn was born in Memphis, TN, but was raised right outside Tupelo, Ms. She grew up singing in church and later on in school. She first picked up the guitar when she was 15 years old. She taught herself to play to help lead worship for her church youth group. She wrote her first song just a year after grief from her childhood dog passing away. Since, Auburn has continued to sharpen her skills, including making multiple honor choirs, performing local gigs, and eventually earning a commercial music degree from Trevecca University in Nashville. After graduation, she stayed in Nashville, writing, recording, and performing for almost 5 years. She is expanding her reach by performing all over Texas and currently residing in Austin. She makes a few trips back to Nash to continue writing and recording with her friends.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not! I feel like my life has been a wild ride. The biggest hurdle was when I was 12 years old and involved in a car accident. I was on the way to school with my dad and sister when an 18- wheeler struck us. We were then thrown into oncoming traffic, where a pickup truck hit the vehicle’s passenger side. I sustained life-threatening injuries, including lacerated kidneys, bruised lungs, broken ribs, multiple face lacerations, and broken bones. However, the most serious injury was my head injury. I was rushed to Lebonheur Children’s hospital, which put me into a medically induced coma for a week. The doctors weren’t sure what I would be capable of or who I would be when I woke up. There was a real possibility I wouldn’t be able to sing anymore. Thankfully, the Lord had different plans. I woke up, and only 3 days later, I was released from the hospital. My doctors were true heroes! They helped guide me on my path to healing, and it wasn’t but a few months until I was back to singing!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a country singer/songwriter first. That doesn’t always pay the bills, so I supplement by being a special education substitute teacher. Both are such fulfilling jobs! Music allows me to express myself in ways words just can’t. I love getting to share my stories from the stage and connecting with other people through them. Special Education allows me to see the world through a different lens; I get to know and love the sweetest group of kids. All of my songs come from my personal experiences. It is cool to write a song that I went through and then have people connect to it on their level. I have a new single coming out on August 19th called Secrets. It is probably the most vulnerable song I have written and released. I wrote it after my boyfriend of two years tried to ghost me. It made me realize that this guy knew everything about me; now, he was just a stranger carrying all my secrets. I’m pretty proud of the single and can’t wait to share it with the world!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m not a big self-help book or podcast girl. The biggest resource for me is my friends and family. I always find myself calling my mamma when something happens, whether it’s good or bad. I wrote a song about that, so be on the lookout cause it just might be one of the ones I have planned to release;) I lean hard on my family. We are all super close, so it makes it easy to ask them for help. Next up are my wonderful friends. Each of them is so different, but they have all profoundly shaped me into who I am. I wouldn’t know half the stuff about the music industry I know now if it wasn’t for them. They keep me afloat sometimes.
