Meet Aura Ray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aura Ray.

Aura Ray

Hi Aura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been passionate about music all my life. I started playing guitar when I was eight, piano by ear since then, and doing events since 14. I had a car accident in 2015 where doctors weren’t sure if I would survive. My whole life changed then and so did my view of music.

It would become a refuge. Not only was I passionate about it but it was also therapy and relief for me. When I was 16, I signed up for the Voice of Germany 2018 and got invited to the blind auditions a few months later, where the judges unfortunately didn’t turn around for me. This experience was very great for me and never stopped me from continuing.

Before starting college, I decided to take a year off from schooling and moved to America to try my luck at music. Because I grew up bilingual, it was never really difficult for me to learn other languages or to learn different cultures. I also speak a little French and can sing in a total of four languages.

While in America, I was invited to audition for AGT, won a local talent show, and have been gigging all over the Midwest, from Chicago down to Nashville. I’m currently writing songs and preparing to record my first single. I thought I was going to stay in the US for a year and move back to Germany after, but I’m already in my second year here and hoping to find a way to stay even longer, because of the success I am having and my love for the current American music scene.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth path. I faced near death; I wasn’t able to do music for a long time after.

Also, being away from my family and friends can be very challenging sometimes.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Most people are surprised when I sing because of my 4ft 11in stature. I have a very big voice and have been told that my melodies are very soulful. I sing all styles of music, country, international, Jazz R&B, and Pop.

I am most proud of my dedication to improving my guitar, piano, music theory, and singing skills and the opportunities I’ve had to perform in America

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
In Carmel, Indiana, there’s a very robust Arts and Music Scene. It is a very affluent community, that supports vibrant local and international cultures. It’s just very expensive to live here and flat!
