Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Caleb.
Hi Benjamin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I learned guitar 7 years ago, it was after the war in my city in GOMA, I was badly injured, and life was really difficult at that time, and by chance, I saw a video of Tommy Emmanuel on YouTube, he played guitar and that inspired me a lot, his music spoke to me, I forgot all the worries of my daily life when I listened to his songs … And after 2 years of listening, I started to learn his songs on the guitar, I felt like life gave me another chance, and it became my life, it has obsessed me until today
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first struggle is when I find myself unable to make my music when there is war because it is common in our environment, sometimes volcano, and sometimes famine, something to eat on the other side there are the difficulties that a young musician can encounter in an environment like Africa.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I play the guitar, I specialize in a style called FingerPicking, which has allowed me to be among the greatest acoustic guitar player here in Africa, And I am famous on Instagram because it is strange to see an African who performs the FingerPicking style to perfection,
And I’m proud to see that I’m appreciated not only by my fans but also by great Guitarists like Tommy Emmanuel, Joe Robinson, or Emil Ernebro.
What sets me apart from others is the sacrifices I am ready to make for my profession as a Guitarist, driven by my passion, I often work 22 hours a day, and sometimes I don’t get nothing in return
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe that with a little luck if I manage to leave Africa, for 5 to 10 years I will be maybe in Nashville trying to make my name enter the history of greats musicians in the music business Anyway, I do my best for that
