Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverly Griffith.
Hi Beverly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I bought my beautiful house in 2017 after having moved back to Nashville in 2014. I had previously lived here from 1999 through 2004, having graduated from Belmont with a BBA in Music Business. I started decorating my home while bartending at Mercy Lounge, and began posting house updates on Instagram along with other inspirational, unique homes and decor I came across and loved. Soon local artists and creatives were asking to shoot photos at my house, and it has now been published in Vogue, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, and on design pages such as Apartment Therapy, HGTV, and others. In 2021, I decided to have the exterior painted pink. My friend Gaelen with local paint company, Local Brushes, tackled that job flawlessly and the rest is history!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I honestly can’t complain. My house has brought me so many friends, locally, nationally, and internationally. It has given me the opportunity to meet people with mutual interests I never would have met otherwise. The biggest challenge I suppose is doing it all myself (with a few exceptions, including that massive exterior paint job of course) with the resources I have. I do all the sourcing, designing, bookings, maintenance etc and it’s a labor of love, but one I don’t take for granted! Besides, I enjoy working alone and think I do my best work that way. It may take a little longer to get things where I want them to be, but it feels good when they get there.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My home, which I named the House of Adora, has become a place for musicians, photographers, videographers, and artists of all sorts to come and create and be inspired, and that is all I can ask for in sharing my space. I find so many unique vintage pieces through FB Marketplace, thrifting, estate sales, etc that it almost feels like a museum in a way haha. All of the photos in this article were shot by local photographers at my house. I think that besides being known for being the girl who owns the pink house, people associate me with daring to be different and my eclectic, luxurious and kitschy aesthetic. Curating in a way that is not easily recreated without lots of time and patience for finding the perfect pieces at affordable prices!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Well obviously I have to credit Gaelen again at Local Brushes for my pink exterior paint that really took my house to the next level in my opinion! And all of the many photographers and artists who have booked my space and tagged it online and shared, and some of my friends who aren’t even in the creative space who have shared my space with others. Without people booking my space I wouldn’t have had the opportunities, resources, or motivation to keep going. Despite designing and doing the work mostly alone, I definitely didn’t get here alone! Without community, my house most certainly wouldn’t exist as it is in its current form, so I thank everyone who has ever booked and/or shared for that.
