Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy McKenzie
Hi Billy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Rollin w/ Jelly started as an idea between friends who wanted to create something that blended good food with a meaningful purpose. Inspired by JellyRoll’s journey and his desire to give back, we launched the food truck with a mission to provide second chances, hiring only felons and creating a positive community. After getting a shoutout from JellyRoll on the CMA’s red carpet in 2023, things really took off. Now, we’re traveling to music festivals across the country, serving our famous Jelly Roll Doughnuts, Jammin w/Jelly artisan Jellies, Jellynade and spreading good vibes wherever we go!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but that’s part of the journey. One of the biggest challenges was getting the food truck off the ground while staying true to our mission of only hiring felons. It can be tough to give people second chances when the world doesn’t always want to. We also faced the usual struggles of running a food truck—navigating logistics, keeping up with demand, and ensuring everything runs smoothly at festivals. But each hurdle made us stronger, and we’re proud of how far we’ve come! The support from JellyRoll’s fans and our community has been a huge part of that success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rollin w/ Jelly is more than just a food truck—it’s a movement. We serve delicious comfort food, specializing in our famous Jelly Roll Doughnuts, but what sets us apart is our mission. We only hire felons, giving people a second chance to rebuild their lives while doing something they love. We travel to music festivals, often where JellyRoll is performing, bringing fans not just food but a sense of community. Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the impact we’re making, both through the lives we’re changing and the joy we bring with every meal. Our story is about resilience, redemption, and rolling with life’s punches—just like JellyRoll’s music.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Nashville is its heart—this city is all about music, community, and second chances. It’s where creativity and hustle come together, and no matter who you are or where you’re from, there’s always a place for you here. The city has grown so much over the years, becoming a hotspot for culture, food, and opportunity. That growth is amazing, but it also comes with its challenges, like rising costs and the fast pace of development. Still, Nashville keeps its soul, and that’s what makes it special.
