Meet Bobby Matthews Jr. of The Bobby Matthews Mortgage Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Matthews Jr.

Hi Bobby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in a small southern town on the northwest corner of Tennessee called Dyersburg. My father and mother are Bobby Sr. and Pamela Matthews; I have 3 siblings Maria, JC, and Annessa. My upbringing centered around honoring God in everything I do parents made sure to emphasize this then and even do to this day. I was a standout football player in High school which led me to play Div. I football at Austin Peay State University and eventually Middle Tennessee State University. I had a love for classical music throughout high school and college and received a number of awards for my classical bass voice. My college days taught me the value of appreciating the struggle. A lot of things didn’t go my way in college but it was all a part of my learning experience. After I graduated from college I moved back home for a year then I left for Washington, DC to pursue a career as a counselor at a for-profit college. After a year, I decided to make a change and move into the mortgage industry and that’s when I found a passion for something just as much as I loved singing and football. It opened my eyes to an industry that fit what I was looking for with my love for helping people, giving back, and time flexibility the mortgage industry checked those boxes. After learning a lot of the business from my mentor in DC Steve Fox. I moved back to Tennessee and started to build my mortgage contacts from scratch. During this time I met my lovely wife Tara and since then we’ve had two boys Grayson and Brayden. I’m so grateful to the realtors, clients, and fraternal brothers who have given my the opportunity to help them with complex financial decisions about their future I wouldn’t be here without them. Over the last three years, we’ve been able to assist over 320+ families achieve their goals of homeownership and save thousands by refinancing. I’m so proud and thankful for what I’ve been able to accomplish over these last few years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it was not smooth at all. I had lots of days of questioning what path I wanted to take with my life. I’ve been in many situations only God could get me out of. I used to think that going to college and getting an education meant the road would be smooth and the pathway straight. However, it doesn’t work that way. No matter what you want to do you’ve got to be willing to put in the work and study to show yourself proven. Once that reality set in I knew what path I needed to take.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Bobby Matthews Mortgage Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Firstly, I put myself in the shoes of the person inquiring about mortgage information or advice. I think about how would I enjoy being communicated with and I go from there. The first impression definitely will shape your future conversations with that client. So I specialize in creating an atmosphere of knowing you have someone on your side who will do everything they can to help you achieve your financial goals. What sets me apart is pretty simple I answer the phone and call people back. I’m not afraid of having tough conversations. The key is not allowing someone to move on from a conversation with you and being unclear about anything. Communication is one of my strong suits. I specialize in helping first-time homebuyers, veterans, and move-up buyers.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Often times in the mortgage industry the difference between company A versus company B will be pennies. The most important factor when it comes to deciding who to work with is the person who is able to bring value long after your business transaction is complete. Before you choose read the reviews!
