Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnie Horton.
Hi Bonnie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born, grew up, and went to college in Mississippi. In 2004, I packed my bags and moved to Hollywood, California to pursue a career in television. My hustle and heart lead me to work with iconic media brands that I could never have dreamed of like Entertainment Tonight, Warner Bros, and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”.
In July of 2015, my husband and I moved to Nashville, to be closer to both sides of our families. For the first three years in Nashville, I was able to keep my job at ELLEN as Director of Branded Content and Partnerships, traveling back and forth from Nashville to LA and sometimes to NYC and Chicago for brand presentations and meetings.
As much as I loved my career in TV/Branded Content and keeping my lucrative job in entertainment, the travel across the country was brutal. The consistent travel made it difficult to build meaningful friendships here, because I was always leaving town to accommodate for last-minute deal opportunities, is needed on set, or even going to LA to negotiate with my bosses face-to-face.
My favorite part of traveling for work was Drybar. It allowed me to pack light, and not lug around my hair care products and tools while traveling. Walking into a boardroom with a fresh blowout gave me the confidence I needed and wanted for meetings & presentations… I was obsessed.
It led me to reach out to the brand to learn about their franchising opportunities in Nashville. The next thing I knew, I was the Operating Partner of the Nashville market with the plan of opening 3 locations.
In May 2019, my Capitol View location opened. Five months later, the Brentwood Hill Center location opened. Five months later, Covid shutdowns began. The heaviness that I went through during the pandemic gave me a huge craving to be creative and see things come to life. At my core, I consider myself creative, with a passion for art, music, and television.
My first idea was to launch a mobile glam business (Miss Pink Parties), which offered makeup and hair (exclusively by Drybar) when people were afraid to go into a busy salon but get back out into the world. It’s been a fun business to work parallel with Drybar, but my passion and love are still entertainment, which led me to revamp my Miss Pink brand and launch Miss Pink Media.
Miss Pink Media (MPM) is a media and brand consultancy, passionate about making magic happen for our brand, talent, and production clients, big and small. We are a team of female experts who thrive in partnership marketing, branded content, and production for brand and media clients across the nation. Also – we’re hiring!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road as an entrepreneur has NOT been smooth, but I’ve grown a lot through the pain!
Launching two brick-and-mortars five months before a pandemic was the most difficult thing I’ve done in my professional career.
I’ve dealt with and survived covid shut-downs, learned to navigate a mass layoff & unemployment benefits, completed two PPP loan applications, and multiple attempts at Employee Retention Credit applications, all while managing my leadership team and staff.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My specialty at Miss Pink Media (MPM) is making magic happen!
The world “consultant” gets a bad name from people who are good at ideas but do not follow through. What sets us apart is execution. At MPM we do Partnership & Program Development, Talent Procurement, and best of all, we execute from start to finish.
I’m most proud of the team I’ve cultivated, and my dedication to helping people grow and realize their full potential, both professionally and personally.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people that know me would probably tell you that I’m the life of the party or enjoy being the center of attention, but it’s one-on-one conversations and authentic connections that give me energy and spark my passion.
