Today we’d like to introduce you to Braden Jamison.
Hi Braden, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My dad has been a pastor my entire life, so I grew up in the church. We’d be there early and stay, so I would wander around and teach myself instruments, leading to my becoming a worship leader. I started playing guitar and writing songs when I was 12 and fell in love with every aspect of the creative process. I was a 4-sport athlete in high school, so I didn’t have much time to gig. In my junior year, I decided to give up basketball to pursue music in the winter since football was my main sport. That year I was allowed to open for Toby Keith, Jimmie Allen, and MercyMe. I also played at the inauguration of Oklahoma’s 28th governor that same year. I was named All-American Quarterback and National Player of the Year in my senior year. My All-American game was in Gatlinburg, so I decided to tour Belmont University, which ironically doesn’t even have a football team, on my way. I fell in love with it and am currently in my 3rd year there.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been some struggles to get where I am today. There are things like being so far away from Oklahoma and missing my family or even being unable to play certain venues because of my age (I turned 21 in April). Sometimes I wonder if I’m in the right place, but then I think about how much the Lord has blessed me and that I have to do what he’s called me to do and trust His plan.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a country singer/songwriter/performer. The most rewarding part of being creative is seeing your work resonate with people. The biggest compliments I get are when people thank me for writing or playing a song because it helped them get through something, which is what music is supposed to do. My sound, in general, sets me apart from most artists. It’s the old-school country to the core with a heart-on-your-sleeve style of writing.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
The best way to support me is to follow me on social, come out to shows, and stream my music.
