Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Shelton.
Hi Brandon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started in leather work in January 2020, shortly after a dramatic accident on the farm resulted in me cutting off my toes and making my farming dream impossible. I grew a large following on multiple social media platforms by sharing the process of my projects in the form of videography and with the help of many of my loyal supporters.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Just like running any other business, there are many ups and downs. Some of the biggest hurdles I have faced so far have been learning to continue being successful through social media while running my first business and growing in the craft of leatherwork.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional leather artist that specializes in leather carving. My work is well known for being unique in that it’s drawn out differently than the traditional Sheridan-style leather carver would use; however, I do a lot of traditional-style carving. I’m proud that I can use my background in graffiti and other graphic designs in my floral carving to make them stand out in a way that is true to me and my style.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Although Covid-19 was a tragedy to most small businesses, I benefited from many people who switched to online shopping by offering my products to everyone around the world through our online website.
