Meet Brett Rettew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Rettew.

Hi Brett, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I simply love woodworking! My grandfather was well-known woodworker in my little small town within Lancaster Pennsylvania in the heart of Amish country. You can say it’s in my genes, but woodworking came naturally to me. I officially started my small business BMR Woodworking in 2019 after my 3rd deployment with the US Army. I convinced myself to take that leap of faith and go all in. Since then, I have been trying to create some of the most unique things using wood and epoxy resin. From charcuterie boards, coasters, river-style dining tables, to encasing a full AR 15 within a coffee table, I strive to be as individualistic within the maker community as much as possible. I take pride in my work. With a small case of OCD, I want my work to be in homes displaying top-quality perfection. With many epoxy creators and makers on the internet, I want nothing more than to set myself apart from the typical. My fiancé and I attend and sell our products (she also has a small business) at many vendor events around the Nashville community. Woodworking is what I love. The best part is watching the faces of people amazed by my work and the intrigue it gives them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Woodworking has always been a never-ending learning curve, but epoxy has surely tested my patience. After two years of diligently experimenting and trying new things, I feel that I am in a solid-state. I take full pride in my crystal-clear products. Woodworking has been around since the beginning of time. I try to incorporate the forgotten past time of creating things by hand but adding a modern twist.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a full-time, therapist helping children with Autism, my woodworking business is my nighttime and weekend small business. I enjoy making products of all sizes from coasters to 6-foot cabinetry with epoxy style doors. I am most proud of being granted the honorable chance to encase rifle casings from a Military funeral in a wall art piece. My business focuses on not the financial aspect, but the sheer joy of seeing the smiles of my customers!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My desire to pursue this passion is given fully to my grandfather who has a piece of work in almost everyone’s home in my hometown. I also must give credit to my fiancé Bethany, who pushes me to max. Inspiring to think outside the box and sheds light into my untapped potential of epoxy and woodworking.
